It was a beautiful winter weekend.

The flu bug seems to be gone from our house. Thank goodness. I actually got a lot done yesterday, cleaning and organizing the house and went out and got the chicken coops cleaned out. I went out today to check for eggs and both my tom turkeys are all beat up. Looks like I had our first turkey fight. I really hope it doesn't continue. They were gonna get seperated by early spring, but the darn hens are so confused that they have started to let the toms mate them, which I am sure is what is causing the fighting. Don't turkeys know they are supposed to follow the rules and not start mating and laying eggs till spring!!! I guess I need to read them some books or something.

I sure would like to get a job as a weatherman. You don't have to be good, just there. That feller this morning said about an inch. Around noon I shovel the "about an inch" and a couple more and it's still snowing. Laura, when you said a pair of seabrights, I assume you meant a rooster and a hen. Are they silver or gold?

I agree, Opa. We've got at least four inches and it is still snowing. I thought maybe I missed something -- I didn't even know we were to get any accumulation. It is very pretty out, though. I am just glad that there isn't any wind!

Hello friends,

COLD- I am so frozen. I cant wait til spring.
Everyone get on here Wednesday night. That night works for me.

Right now I am getting kicked off the computer by my fourteen year old.

It snowed all day here too. It only totalled to about two inches though. Roads were nasty- must have caught the crews off guard.

Okay whiney teenage girl needs to talk to her boyfriend on facebook- I will try and get back on later.

Opa, I hope you got your water tank replaced and no more leaks!

I just checked and tonight is the first night this year that my two sons, who live in sw Missouri, have been warmer than we are. They have been averaging 12 degrees colder than us. For them that is very unusual and creates problems that they have forgotten how to deal with. Fortunately we all know how to deal with bitter cold and snow. Lucky us.

M2EM, I to will be glad when spring arrives. No more carring water to the chickens. No more worrying about frostbite. Spring is a wonderful thing. In that vein, I talked with Wynette tonight about our 2nd annual Chickenstock and with both agree that it should be better than last year. We need some help. If you intend to come please click on the link in my signature line and then go to the appropriate link. We are hoping to contact manufacturers and supplies and we need to be able to show them what a wonderful event we have scheduled. Chickenstock will be here much sooner than it seems. It's only 152 days away now but when you are trying to set things up the time goes quick.

Insomnia is not such a good thing in the winter time. I just sit in front of this heater- could be sleeping. However, i woke with some impending feeling of doom- rather scary if I would let myself really focus on it. I also received a text message ten minutes before I woke from my son that just said , "I love you Mom". Very unusual behavior from him. He is currently staying with my friend in Monroe. My phone was in another room so that didnt wake me. I dont know if the weird feeling I have was before I read his text or not. I know this makes no sense, but typing at three thirty in the morning isnt supposed to make much sense. Having a 16 year old son diagnosed as bi-polar with all sorts of other behavioral issues and addictions is very hard to deal with.
That said, I am very awake. I will probably feel ready to go back to sleep when it is time to get ready for work. Seems to be the way it goes.

I am unsure if I will make ChickenStock or not. Its almost two hours from me- depends on the health of the vehicle at that time. If all goes well i will plan on it. It would be wonderful to meet you all in person. It would be nice to see if anyone had a splash silkie hen that they no longer wanted. Like my avatar. I miss mine. I will do a silkie hatch once the weather allows me to not be forced to have chickens in the house for months. But then i feel bad sending the ones I cant keep to my brother in laws. Too muddy there for feathered feet.

I hope you all have a wonderful warm day. Anyone hear if we are supposed to have sunshine today? I think I need a good dose of that- even if it stays cold. I will be trapped inside at work all day, but I would like to at least look out the windows and see sun.
My mom is taking my girls for a get-away to a hotel at the end of the month. They went swim suit shopping yesterday. I told them I couldnt imagine even thinking of swimsuits with the cold weather. They did good, easy to find suits because I dont think anyone is buying them right now. Besides that, everyone just got started on their New Year's Resolutions so they arent ready to shop for them.

Friday, my neighbors are having a city inspection- theirs is a rental home. Please everyone send good vibes that the inspectors will not look over the fence. My whole world could be turned upside down if they do- or if any particular hen decides to throw a hissyfit. My chickens are illegal.

Good morning all, the coffee is hot but the forecasted day, not so hot. Cloudy and 25 is predicted. It could be worse so I'll just look forward to seeing the sun they claim we will see occasionally tomorrow.

I've got to put some doors on my nest box egg trays to block out light. As it is I occasionally observe hens trying to reach under the partition and pull the eggs back under them. I've had 4 or 5 eggs broken and the contents eaten. I'm hoping that if the dark is dark they would be able to see the eggs and that it will stymie the egg eater. If that doesn't work I will build a new nest with ramps that carry the eggs further from the birds and out of their reach.

The young guy (45) across the street works for a company that sends him all over the country. He came over last night to let us know what his work schedule is this week so that we can feed his dog. He was telling us how unhappy he is with the new trick his dog has learned; opening the refrigerator. He came home yesterday to discover the refrigerator door standing open and the four 3 lb stick of summer sausage we made last week gone. Normally the dog meets him at the door when he comes in. This time he was hiding behind the couch.

Good morning all... the sun is shining very thankful to start a new day. I wasn't sure if I was suppose to laugh as my heart sank about the neighbors dog's new trick. Just thankful my dogs didn't learn that one.

Sounds like your neighbor needs a refrigerator lock Sam!! Usually those are for toddlers, but I am sure they would work for naughty dogs too!!

M2MAll - You should sign up to come, so Sam has an idea you are coming, just put a note on there about your vehicle or whatever. Last year many people car-pooled, perhaps you can do that with another MI BYC member?! I bet there will be some sweet little silkies there too!

Brrrrr, it is cold out there!!
