I have fertile eggs from a a Serama pair, the Roo looks like him... If you don't find a roo, you could have some of my eggs to hatch.

That would be fabulous! My son is just devastated. This Roo was like a favorite dog to him. I would love to get him another. Eggs woud be great. I'll PM you.

Here is a picture I took last fall. Not a great picture, but will give you an idea. I sent you a pm.

Thank you Susanne, and yes good to be back. Ive been busy around here getting ready for spring. Doing the spring cleaning stuff around the house cuz I getting ready to move back out to my camper for the summer months to be a lot closer to my animals. My girls every time I walk out into the side yard, they run to the camper, they know where all the treats are LOL and who says chickens are dumb?

Oh wouldnt that be great a side painting of some chickens or one of the old fashion eggs for sale signs? But you live so far away, you'd have to come and stay a while to do one. But thats okay, pack up the kids, bring a camper or tents and we'll all have a ball. My grandson will be staying the summer with me, he's 13 and Im sure to 2 youngest, 4 and 5 will be here a good part of it too. The more kids the better!!!

Have almost 40 eggs in the bator to start hatching tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed for us. Both these little giant incubators from TSC are a pain in the arse to keep regulated. Never again will I purchase one of these. Think I might just have to make a cabinet one of my own this summer.

Angelo at MSU sent this list of hatching eggs. Note also he says he may have some layers later this month. I'm going on Friday to pick up turkey eggs. I can't wait, I've never hatched eggs before.

I actually shattered the whole side of a partridge Silkie egg when I was moving it from the incubator to the hatcher. Luckily, it didn't rupture the membrane. I put tape all over the shattered area and definitely didn't expect it to hatch. But it did, and I have a cutie patootie little partridge fuzzy butt now.

Brianna, so sorry about your poor Silkie.

This is five feet in front of our house. This is our usual group of Toms. There is also a smaller group of Toms that were last years Jakes, a group of 20+ hens that show up occasionally, and a Lone Wolf Tom who makes the deer look small ( I swear that boy's at least 30 lbs.)

When I told my dad I was getting chickens, one of my arguments was that we already have a flock of Turkeys!

I had a very large flock of turkeys here every year except this year. I still see them in all the farm fields, they are just not using the roosting spot they always used before. I just don't get it.

We have a flock of wild turkey's that have been visiting our bird feeders too. The kids and husband are glued to the window when they see them and when they wonder why I'm not excited to see them I say, "I see them everyday, you're just not looking out the window above the kitchen sink as often as I am". Then there is silence and they all decide that there are better things to do.

I have about a dozen and a half Cuckoo MaransX eggs that I've been saving to set on Wednesday with my daughters class, well now we aren't doing it until after spring break (mid-April) so does anyone want them?

Good Morning Everyone

I've been up since 4am with my sick daughter. She's just back to sleep now.

What an exciting day yesterday. Hubby and I met Premier Silkies in Mt Pleasant and got 5 white cochins and 1 partridge cochin. I am amazed at the size of these birds and they are only 8 moths old. I think they may be a little stressed out from the road trip. When we put them in the garage they drank so much water their faces were all wet. and they actually dropped water back out of their beak. I am wondering if I should put them in the ajoining run to my girls today or just leave them destress in the garage for a couple days. And shoud I medicate them just for a boost. When can I give these big girls a bath? They smell and are all dirty. I think the cat carrier car ride was hard on them. I still can't believe how soft they are. We are so excited to have them.

We also got eight 10week old silkies. I only wanted 5 (one for each one of mine and the neighbors kids). She said this way I should be sure to get a few girls. This sticks. They are all so cute I'm going to get attached to all of them then not be able to get rid of any.

So I have never seen a silkies foot before, just what are the supposed to look like. They look alien to me. I guess that explains why they don't roost.

So I have two brooders set up in the living room. One for the silkies and one for the chicks I am getting this morning. 9 of them. SLW, GLW and Australorps. Do I need to worry about the silkies making the chicks sick? The look very healthy. Eating and drinking and pooping good. no dirty butts and very alert. I checked for snotty noses too. My question is should I move one brooder into to a different room and would that matter since they are still going to to breathing the same air? We have a big bottle of hand sanitizer in the LR so we stay clean between chicks. But do we need to wear different clothes for each set or a clean blanket over us? I have dealt with preme human babies twice, but never chicks at different ages from different stock. I don't want to kill anyone.

Oooopsie Daisy, camping out at the farm doesnt sound bad at all.

I think it would be great. Just have to figure out what you want and how big for me to get an idea how long it would take. I am most deffintaly crossing my fingures for your incubators to work.

I knew when I saw the pics of your cochins That they would make a lovely addition to the flock. but OMG pictures can not come close to showing just how truly impressive these birds are. We are so excited, even more now that we got the whites and partridge to get the blues. We just got those silkies and two of them are blue. That is sooo pretty. I kept saying it looks gray, but its not.

Good Luck and keep us posted

Susanne

Susanne,
Congrats! You will be busy this week. I would recommend leaving your newbies in the garage for a couple days. Keep an eye on them. (Personally, I wouldn't medicate...)
Baths? I dunno. It is still cold out. They will groom themselves. Also, if you can provide ash or sand for a dust bath, I bet they'd like it.

Opa - your turkey pix make me want to buy acreage.
