Welcome, Ferrret! Do you have chickens yet? Glad you found us!

I need homes for 2 Australorp and 1 "araucana/ee" pullets.... anyone in the Jackson area interested? I don't mind raising them till they are a little bit bigger, if you are not ready to take them yet...

The morning is starting out a little gloomy but at least it's warm enough that the snow is continuing to leave. I've only got two small piles remaining and hopefully that will be the last of it until next winter. Everything considered we actually didn't far badly this winter with regard to snow and bitter cold.
I've got to go do a small job this morning and then install the two nest boxes I built and then build two more. Once they are all install I'm going to start separating birds. I think that this chicken mania is starting to approach critical mass.

Hi everyone

yep its a little wet here to. but better than snow!!!!

With the snow gone really helps with my feed cost going down, the chickens and ducks have been finding all kinds of worms this morning. they are in there glory

It's gloomy, but still warm out. It's already 52 out!! Watching the bluejays eating their peanuts and the sparrows eating their seed. Chickens are wanting out of their run so they can get to the grass. Dogs are waiting to go for their walk. Farmvill is waiting to be farmed. Oh my! You all have a good day and enjoy the warmer weather.

well i got my first chicks yesterday, is there anything you can do for a chick that seems sick?
pics?
iluvcks, the people at eevies were really nice, but i asked him what other breeds he had(becuase i wanted a branha i cant spell, but the said wyawadotts or somthing like that, and stopped. so i said yeahthat would work. then after he had alread put it in he told me that they had what i wanted, but if you look at his hand he was missing fingers, and he was old so i didnt want to bother him so i just accepted it.
and i have to sayTHANKYOU again you saved me like 60 dollars, instead of order from mypetchicken

Just wanted to say good morning to everyone!!

Loving this weather, even with the little bit of rain. Can't wait to get started on redoing my barn and breeding pens.
Yesterday I got 13 eggs from 14 chickens.

My family thinks I am nuts because I was so excited.
Hope everyone has a great day!!!!

Morning! The Family Farm and Home in Alma is supposed to hold some Cornish Xs and some BR and SLW pullets for me when they come in next Tuesday or Wednesday. Can't wait. Might have to pick up a banty for my oldest daughter, too. I know that I'll probably end up with more than I asked to be held, but that's all part of this chicken disease, right?

Ferret, do you have chickens?

thepremo1, Im so sorry you didnt get the chick you really wanted. Maybe you could call him and explain what happened. He is so sweet, and I don't think his missing fingers slow him down much. Maybe you could just go back and get that one bramah. Whats one more bird in the big scheme of things. You know you want her.

I am so sorry you have a sick baby. Opa told me to give them poultry drench(from Tractor Supply) in their water. So I mixed some in on the first day. Mine are all doing wonderful. What is the temp in the brooder? They already are getting their 3rd row of wing feathers. Make sure to take plenty of pics. They grow so fast. Changing everyday.

Did you see the ducks? Arent they the sweetest things ever? I came home with two peking babies. They are set up in their own brooder and doing great. Yesterday we had them out loving them up and they were following my daughter and I around the house. Husband said take back these chickens and bring me 20 ducks. He is so funny, he wouldnt even look at the ducks when I brought them home.

Finally got the house clean and caught up on laundry. I think it would have been hard just having the 9 chicks, 2 baby ducks and 8 eight week old silkies in the house, then making sure everyone is happy outside too. But its just crazy with two sick kids too. My daughter finally went back to school yesterday, and my son today.

So I was looking at the photos of the chicken tractor. That is so cool. Do you think that would work out for the silkies? I am undecided on if I should let them be in the big girls coop. Does any one have any thoughts. I don't want them to get hurt. I did put the silkies in a seperate run yesterday that is inside a large run the rest of the girls are in. A couple of the big girls came over to check them out, but no one really seemed very interested in them.

The Cayuga eggs that I had ordered just came in the mail yesterday!

Last night, I candled my freebie eggs to make sure I was doing it right before putting in the paid-for eggs. Out of the dozen, there was only one that was infertile. I put the incubator in my little boy's room. It was so cool to sit there with him last night, and clearly see those little duckling embryos with their little hearts beating. Sooooo... since everthing was progressing well, I put in my 25 Cayuga eggs. I'm excited!

Little Currie, my bantam hen who has been sitting on a cracked duck egg, adopted two more. Thanks to Sarah's advice, I sealed the crack with candle wax. I checked it last night, as well, and the little duckling is moving around and getting bigger. So the wax trick has worked for now. It just cracks me up to see my little bantam girl sitting on top of three great big Pekin duck eggs.

And she's so serious about it, too! I think she would take off my finger if she could.
