I did it!! I actually went to TSC and they had loads of chicks and I didn't get one. Or six since that is the minimum.

The coop is in it's place. Had to trim out extra trees. Now it's the renovations to make it a good home for chickens.

I know what you mean Briana. I went to Family Farm and home today and did not get any chicks either. I was sure tempted though. The little bantams were just so 'te-niney' and there were also some light brahma's that looked interesting. The cashier was disappointed that we did not bring Kodi, our husky. They love it when we bring him with us. We did come home with 2 peach trees, 2 cherry trees and another apple tree.

Let's see a pic of the new bird Sam! If not a pic, what breed or are you going to keep us guessing until we come to visit????

There must be some extra restraint in the BYC water lately because I went to TSC for some step-in electric fence posts today and only looked at the fuzzy butts myself. Of course the shipment of 75 I'm expecting next week helped keep things in perspective.

I am expecting to get some at chickenstock plus ordering some more meaties in June, that is what is helping to keep things in prespective for me. I also have a broody RIR sitting on two eggs, one is a wooden one though.

Just a quick note, my computer died.

My daughter is letting use her laptop to check messages real quick. I will be picking up a new one and be back online by Monday, but with the holiday weekend and traveling most of the weekend, I just don't have time to do it sooner, as much as I want to!

I am not sure I will survive the withdrawals!!

After visiting with Opa yesterday, we decided to stop at Livingston Feed and Seed for some DE. I hadn't been in there yet, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, they had a chick bin, but no chicks so I wasn't tempted.

Here's the funny part though. We were standing at the counter deciding how much DE to get, and I noticed they had egg cartons for sale. I mentioned to Doug about the egg cartons, and a woman behind me says, " Who needs egg cartons?" I turn around, and said I do! The girl behind the counter didn't skip a beat, and hands us a pad, and pen.
So as we are talking, we both realize we live right near each other.

We exchange numbers, and she invites me over later that afternoon. So, I now have plenty of egg cartons, and a new friend my age, who is a strange as I am.

It turns out she lived in Boston awhile, and has had similar experiences like I have. We both always got viewed as the strange girl who does things her own way, and doesn't care what the yuppy neighbor thinks. She mentioned living in Brighton also, and had tilled up her whole backyard to plant a huge garden, and the neighbors complained.

Something I would have done too.

I also lost a welsummer chick last night.

I'm not sure what happened. I had peeked in and checked on them before I went to take a shower. I didn't want to touch them until after I cleaned up. Everyone was moving around, and seemed fine. I wasn't gone more than 10 minutes, and came back to give them fresh water, etc. One chick was lying on it's side. Doug thinks it might have been crushed or injured by another, but we aren't sure. It was just strange it happened in the span of 10 mins. So, the rest of the night I was worried, and kept getting up to check on the others. Of course, the rest were all fine, and no problems.

So times we can all benifit from a reminder of just how wonderful and precious live is. Watching a feel good feature of Good Morning America and there was a short bit that showed a widely smiling little girl of about two walking. What made witnessing her happiness so wonderful is that she had two artificial legs. When you consider all that can be accomplished medically, the good old days are now.

Good morning Everyone

I have been reading the past posts, Congrats on all the new chicks, and having the strength to walk away from the ones you do not need.

Oopsie Daisy I am so sorry for your loss. I really hope you called the police. I would have been completely devastated if that happened to my girls.

Last Sunday Savannah came down with a fever and a sore throat. She had a low grade fever for four days but only spent one on the couch. She seemed like she was getting better. Tuesday night I started hurting so bad I could barely stand it. I have fibromyalgia and just figured it was a flare up since I have been over doing it outside. When I woke up Wednesday I wanted a bullet. I felt like someone had beat me with a 2x4. Wallside showed up at 7:15am to put in all of our windows and I had to bail and go the the neighbors to sleep. Anyway later that evening Savannah and I went to Redimed. I probably had the flu and we both have strep throat. That stuff caused the Fibromyalgia to flare up. Whoo Hoo. Had to drop the kids off at their dads Wednesday. He called Thursday to let me know Donovan had a 102 temp. I met him at Redimed to fill out insurance paperwork. I hate not having my kids when they are sick. I feel like I should be taking care of them. Anyway I went to see them yesterday and they are both much better, and me too. I hate being sick:(

We had some friends stop over yesterday and they helped us move the coop. I love the new placement in the yard. Today we are going to set posts for the new 6 foot fence. Right now we just have a temporary 4 foot. I can't wait to have a gate so I can get to the water on the otherside of the chicken area without having to go thru the house. Soon we will be adding on to the coop. The babies are almost 4 weeks old now. We got them outside for about an hour yesterday. They loved it. The ducks are almost 5 weeks. They are taller than the chickens and feathering in nicely. Both are quacking up a storm. They are the hit of the neighborhood. Everyone loves them.

Olive Hill we do not need this rain badly we need it 2 get dryer so we can plant the fields.

I want to ask here first but im selling a Mille Fleur Roo for $15. Please I want to get rid of him so I can get new chicks this spring.
