I was on a web site and it had a link to chickens breaking up a rabbit fight. Who says chickens are stupid??? I laughed at the chicken with the blk/white rabbit. He's like, dont you dare move one step or I'll flock you. Oh heck with it, Im flock'n you anyway ...its funny. Here is the link. Enjoy.

LOL! that was cute...

Got a question.... If I go to chickenstock and get a bird or three... What is the best way to transport them home? Small box or dog crate? I have no idea what size to expect. I'd like to get silkies ... any suggestions? Bring both?

Wow, I wish I could take you up on that offer. I'm sure someone will be along real quickly though. We're having chicken issues with the county right now and I can't afford to get attached to anymore.

Have you checked out the MI Right to Farm Act thread? It might help. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=182280 Good luck and don't let them take your chickens with out a fight!!

Thanks Vicki for the suggestion. I was on the phone this am with a Mr. Whitman at the dept of Ag and I don't think anything outside of getting a lawyer or moving will help. As much as I wish I could do both of these things it's not in the budget. I got permission in 2002 but now they say the law is different. I'm frustrated but trying to work through the legal process properly, and while it's going to take cops at the door to take the ones I have, I'm also not going to add to the problem by bringing in more just in case.

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Bluemoon today, she so graciously gave me a dozen eggs to hatch out with my daughters class, it was a pleasure! However then I came home to a sick hen....She is lethargic and feels puffy, like she is full of air. I gave her some Poultry Drench directly in her mouth and left her inside for the day, has anyone seen puffy?? She's my 6 year old's favorite hen, any suggestions would be gratefully received!!

My broody is puffy when I try to look under her, but never have I seen a puffy hen as you describe.

Ducklings have arrived - a shot of them with my cell phone, I'll dig the real camera out and get some better pictures. Boy, they are busy! Much more active than chicks.

I'm not sure what exactly might be wrong, poultry drench won't hurt. You can also try VetRx if it's respitory issue, or even some antibiotics for 3 to 5 days. Just keep her seperated from the rest. I hope she gets better.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will go out tomorrow and get her some antibiotics. Is is possible for an egg to break inside of her? Even with calcium supplement she has been laying really thin shelled eggs, they seldomly make it to the house.

That's possible. You'll notice a yellowish foam on her behind. It kind of looks like egg yolk. Do a search on egg bound I think it is.

We are almost done with the second chicken house. Well, it's done enough to put them in it tonight. Rest of things left to do we can do while they are in it.
