We checked with the custom stained glass artist who built it and it cost $14,000.00. The new owners don't like it and intend to sell it for substantially less. I wish I could afford it but then I would need to build a new house to put it in.

Sure wish someone wanted to hatch some bantams. I keep looking at them and start thinking about turning the incubators on. Somebody save me from myself.

Oh my , its beautiful. Wish I could have something so lovely, but with 7 dogs I know what would happen. The Dane and Mastiff would get playing and end up going through it. And the reason I have solid steel doors on my home.

HBH: Im so excite for you. You'll have to fill us in after your reunion on Sunday.

SillyChicken: Very neat coop and your site is very well done as well.

YakLady: The duck eggs from you are to start hatching 4-30-2010 wish me luck, As the darn bator went up to 103 two different times when silly me opened up the doorwall in the house. Crossing fingers.

Olive Hill: Glad you are getting eggs from your turkey. And they are working out better for you now.

Remember tomorrow is the Imlay City Bird Swap. Bring your flashlights and dress warm. Its pretty chilly up this way.

Well Im very excited about my new Sebastopol's that are coming in tonight. Im picking up 3 geese and a Splash or white gander. (havent made up my mind yet) She knows I love babies so she's throwing in a 5 day old goose that Ive already named "Matuse the Galoose" LOL Im sure she'll be very spoiled as she'll live with me and the dogs until she's old enough to go outside. And here I thought having a house chicken was nuts.

Im gonna post my phone number here and anyone that goes to the swap, call if you wanna meet up for lunch or just to walk about. There is a few of us going already.

What do you need to know? All I know is it starts at 10 am, there is a 5 dollar fee to buy or sell anything, it will be for anything farm related, a bake sale and raffle and the proceeds go to updating the small animal barn for the 4-H.
If you are interested in other small animal sell and swaps there is one in Newaygoat in the Family Farm and Home parking lot every month. The dates are: May 10, June 12 [chickenstock date!], July 10, August14, Sept 11 and October 9.

Afternoon! We picked up 100 red pine seedlings to plant today at the conservation district sale. Trying to plant at least that much every year. Hubby wants to encompass our five acres (like a fence of trees). Still have a long ways to go! It would be nice to own the other eleven acres that my grandparents own, but that costs lots o' money!

All of the stained glass is sandwiched between two pieces of clear glass. Dogs couldn't get to it.

Well the composters finished and installed. They are made from 55 gallon plastic pickle barrels $15, a toilet flange $5, 42" of 4" schedule 40 PVC $4, knockout cap .35, 5' of 1 1/4 pipe $5 total cost $29.25.

Ready to install

Toilet flange bolted in bottom of barrel

Pipe axle thru barrel and 4" aeration pipe. Axle also serves as compost breaker when barrel is rotated

Two composters installed

I saw a comparable commercial composter for $400 so less than $30 worked for me. The theory is that air comes in through the 4" pipe and supplies O2 to the micro-organisms needed to breakdown the materials into compost. Instead of having to turn a pile of compost with a p;itchfork you just spin the barrel. The black plastic helps supply the heat and will continue to function well into winter.

very nice Opa.... may have to try that one myself!

Thanks for the coop complements too! I'm proud of how it's coming along.

Sunday, I'm going to meet Guitartist! She's bringing up her geese! I'm excited about adopting them and hope they're happy here. I'm going to fix up the dog house my dad made me for my first dog..... lets just say it's old, but well built, it's for a nesting box for the one that wants to lay eggs..... Does that sound like a good plan? I've never had geese before. I'm going to clean it out, paint it and put some extra ventilation in it... plus make a door made of vented screen so she can be enclosed if necessary, but still have good air flow. If anyone else has had experience with geese, I'm all ears!

Wow - Where do you get 55 gallon plastic pickle barrels? They look like they would make good rain barrels, composters, Large cider fementers, Large beer fermentors....Hmmm
