I talked to Bangor Twp today. Will have the "list "within 5 days. Cant wait to see whos on it. Then I went to Bay City and talked to Zoning. OK they are aloud to have chickens but one of the rules is it has to be a ciderblock bunker for a coop. Amyway more BS. They said the RTFA will not apply to me because I have not lived in my home since the law was put on the books. My best bet is to get an admenment to the zoning ordinaces. So I am going to do some more research, but it looks like I need to write up an Admentment. Get a petition and have as many folks sign it as possible. Then show up to the town meeting with a lot of information and support. And hope for the best. All I know is I am not going down without a fight.

So whos up for a chicken sit in on my front lawn. I have a big lawn, enough room for a couple hundred folks.

LOL, maybe it's a Yak egg!

Thanks for posting all that information. Although I don't think I'll have issues were I live it's good to have the knowledge and to be set up "correctly" when we get our farm going... aside from the chickens!

HI!! I am relatively new on the boards and had a quick question for Michiganders-
Anyone know of any processors near Whitehall area (Muskegon, Whitehall, Montague, Rothbury, New Era, Shelby, Hart, etc?)

Thanks - a few of my friends and I have been searching with no luck!
and I have 44 birds to be done in June that I don't want to have to do alone LOL

Gah...
Just called the police to check on a bunch of angrily shouting people standing out in the street. Profanities and threats of violence drifting in the air down the street for everyone to hear.
I wasn't the first one to call and they were already sending someone out to see what is going on. Now it sounds like they are trying to make it look like an innocent get together.

What happened to things being quiet and peaceful around here?
Sheesh... On one hand I'm happy to be moving away soon, on the other I know that I'm moving closer to Flint where more instances like this can come up.

I'll be right there, myself and Crazy Chicken Fever. You need someone to go with you door to door getting a petition signed, Im with ya there too.

YakLady: You sure know how to put words on paper. YOU GO GIRL!!! Job well done!

YakLady: I have 4 that hatched I just took the other eggs out of the bator today. I tossed them to the dogs as there was no stink which surprised me. The others were not even developed at all. Just yoke. But Im not saying they were not fertile as I had such incubator issues, Im surprised any hatched at all. Remember bring me a couple dozen to chickenstock if you can. Im going to keep a small flock back for meat production. Also was going to say that if you are going to process a yak come fall, if you are going to be doing meat birds, you should bring them up with you at the same time. Wilcox isnt that far from Yale processing plant and they are fast and only charge $1.30 per bird and I believe he said $1.50 per duck. That way this time we can meet up for lunch while your up this way as Im only 15 miles south of Wilcox place.

If this darn weather would get nice I could bring the cayuga/pekin cross ducklings out to the pool and get some pictures to post. They are adorable to say the least and all look like they are dressed in a tux. TOO CUTE and thank you so very much for the eggs.

Here is a picture of my young splash Sebastopol gander named Todd. He's as sweet as he can be and is now trying to befriend me. I dont know if its to whoop my arse or he just like the treats I toss out 3 times a day? He's a beautiful bird and I cannot wait to see his feathering after he's done molting and is a big boy.

Ooopsie Daisy He is beautiful!

Thank you for the offer. I have someone to go door to door with me I think. But I am serious about the sit in if enough people are interested.

I am exhusted. Just totally drained. This mess is a nightmare that I keep thinking I will wake up from. I just don't understand why people didnt come directly to me if they had a problem. I am not hurting anyone. Just because you have time on your hands does not give you the right to make my life miserable.

The guys in zoning for the City of Bay City told me I need to write up an admendment to the zoning law. So now I have to do research and figure out how to word it.

I think I am going to have to stash my flock somewhere untill I can get the law changed. It doesnt look like I am going to get very far with them here.

Basically I have not lived here since before the RTFA was written. Also from what I can gather I am not a legit business. I sell eggs without a business license.

I don't know what the law is here in Michigan, but in most states you have to sell a certain volume of stock (aka chicks, eggs) before you need to be licensed. Usually it's a number in the thousands per year. More BS for you.

As far as I know, business licenses are relatively easy to get and they don't cost too much.

That may not stop them from telling you to get rid of your chickens, but it could be helpful to have in the future for selling things.
