It looks like things may get a little damp this morning. Sure hope that it holds off till noon but I think it is pretty close. I have a bunch of items that I need to put back in the garage of the remod we have going and rain isn't going to help.

Ellen, are EE known for not going broody? I have an Ameraucana that is broody right now. Seems like I always have at least one hen broody.

With EE's being such a genetic mix (you never know what they really are) I just never expected one of mine to go broody. This girl in particular is probably a higher percent Ameraucana, but she is very flighty compared to my other girls.

Time to batton down the hatchesbefore the rain gets here.

Good morning Michigan,

Love the rain. Ran out this morning and planted some of my seedlings (cabbage and collards) They were dying in the trays and this is my last ditch effort to save them. Keep babying those tomato plants. Mine are showing signs of stress. They need to be transplanted or put in the ground sooner than later.

Successfully integrated 4 week old white bantam, 3 week old nankin and 2 week old Serama. They are so cute all cuddled up together. That serama chick is only as tall as the other girls legs. She can walk right under them, but they have literally taken her under their wings and act like mommas with her. Too cute!

Good morning everyone. I have a new broody. I am gonna put 3 turkey eggs under her tonight. It was the last egg Daisy laid and the reason she was out on her nest.

It was raining here at 6:30 this morning. It has been a light rain but raining just the same.

I am watching my cousins kids today. They are moving into a new house and the baby is so tired and cranky. Poor thing really needs a nap.

Three weekends to go till chickenstock. I will be in the market for some bantams. I only have 13 for the new coop, that can hold 25 easy.

I finally caught something in the live trap. To bad I had to let it go. It was a young rabbit. No chance in that eating any chickens or turkeys. But if I would of thought about it... they did make it impossible to grow any broccili or cauliflower last year.

I've got 5 broody girls right now. It's kind of annoying. We have 6 nest boxes, and 5 are occupied by broody girls. The other girls keep trying to lay eggs and the broodies won't let them in the nest boxes. I found 3 eggs under the roost area yesterday. Good thing I just cleaned it a couple of days ago.

I have about 30 chicken eggs of various breeds and mixtures in the bator right now, due to hatch on the 28th. My birthday is on the 29th, so I'll have cute little fuzzies for my birthday!

I completely forgot I had turkey eggs in the 'bator last night when the power went out. About 3 1/2 hours into the outage it dawned on me. By then it was already only 78 degrees in there.

I hooked it up to the power inverter right away once I remembered and the temp came up quickly but I'm worried it was too late. It's a staggered hatch so the first batch would have been on day 15, the second on day 5.

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to pop in and say "HI"!

It looks like I won't be attending chickenstock this year. But I've got a LOT of chicks for sale, from day olds up through 6 weeks+ . If anyone is looking for something in particular, just pm me. I'm outside working on pens most all day...even today in the rain. But I'll get back with you as soon as possible. I've got straight run Silkies and Showgirls, black bantam Cochin PAIRS, straight run bantam Polish (black and cuckoo, smooth and frizzle), and several young roos of different breeds.

But the good news is that my better half FINALLY got a job...started today. So now my household can return to normal...at least as normal as it can get.

Have a great day everyone...I'm headed back out to work some more.

As for chickenstock...I've been having some issues with a neighbor's black lab retriever coming for "visits" on the weekends, usually every Sunday morning.

And hubby's new job will have him working on the weekends for a while...until things get settled down. I just can't chance leaving all my birds for a full day...a big Lab can do a lot of damage.

I've got a lot of youngsters that I've just put outside in pens, and they'd just be too tempting for that dog I'm afraid. There's only so much complaining I can do to my neighbors...and since it's only happening on Sunday mornings, calling animal control is not an option. If I could catch the dog, I'd pen him up and "save" him for animal control on Monday...but he knows to run when he sees me.

If only I had a little 22 rifle, I might could discourage him from coming back.

Briana,
I have seven bantams here- will you be out this way? Three/four Mille Fluer and whatever else was in that bin at TSC...If you come out visiting your sister-in-law you could swing by here and help yourself.

I totally understand about the dog, but if he is only coming on Sunday's, you should be safe because Chickenstock is on Saturday!!

Ok, seriously, you need to get a gun or hot wire!
