Welcome Frances!

Lost a black austrolorp on Friday - no sign of predator...she was simply lying under a protective area that we have for them. Opa, it was the smallest of the 3 that we adopted from you.
Ok, I REALLY need to free up an area for the new chicks...so without building a new coop, I'm looking for input on introducing 10 8 wk olds to the adult flock.
The SLW's (4) which are beautiful btw, joined the adult flock just fine..they were probably 10 weeks old - Ellen, this will be the last time that I ask - what was the hatching date for this group? Thanks!

Can I be just a little bit jealous? My oldest son is saying he does not want any kids but it was sure fun watching him interact with my great nephew Saturday. He is really good with kids.

Welcome Frances, I hope you can make it to chickenstock

Nancy, the smallest of the three was the hen that was given to me by friend and she was substantially older than the other two that I had raised. She might have simply surrendered to age.

This morning was a tough morning here. Granny's bichon was getting so bad that she decided it would be kinder to have it put down. Even though it wasn't my dog I still found myself getting misty eyed as I rubbed the dog's back while waiting for the seditive to take affect. She went easy and now lies under a cairn of stones in the backyard. Granny's is sad of course but she stated "I still have the chickens".

Sam, I'm so sorry about the dog. Please pass my condolences along to Granny.

It's promising to be another hot one today. I can't say as though I mind, it's good for the garden and the fruit trees and makes rearing the chicks, goslings and poults we've got due to hatch and/or arrive in the next few weeks that much less energy intensive. Just have to schedule most of the outside chores into the mornings and evenings and do more office work during the heat of the day -- seems I'm more productive on that schedule anyway.

Speaking of goslings, I should have 8 American Buffs (4 pairs) awaiting me tomorrow morning at the USPS. One gander is destined for my Christmas dinner table, another for goose sausage, and two lucky boys will get to stay and be of service to the four ladies in the spring. I can't wait.

So sorry about Granny's dog Sam....please tell Granny we're thinking of her. And thanks for the info on the austrolorp.....she was just laying there on her side....and must have been close to the time all the other hens made their way into the coop. Enjoy the heat!

I just discovered I won't be able to make it to Chickenstock

both my girls have their recital on that day. That being said, does anyone want any Bantam Faverolles? They're black? and not hatchery stock.

to Granny.

So sorry to hear about Granny's dog. It's really tough. They become members of the family.

Sure is hot out there. I'm planting my garden. Had to come in and eat, tho. Good to be done with it and hope it produces better than last year! Enjoy the day!

I am so sorry to her about Granny's dog. So sad.

It is a hot one today. But the humidity is better. I got some little baby oak trees planted, and the 2 big pots on the back patio planted. We will be having my step-sons graduation party in July and boy is the to do list piling up.

Francis you aren't far from me. We are 20 mins SW of Metro with a Carleton address. I have noticed we have neighbors that have peacocks. I do not know them, but sometimes you can see the peacocks in their pen. They have a beautiful white one and the blue that you normally see. Also Calder's Dairy is really close and they have a lot of peacocks. I do not know if these people breed them or not.

Im sorry, Sam-

for Granny, it is so hard to lose a little family member like that.

Connie! Oh no! I am so sad you wont be able to be at Chickenstock! I was going to sneak all my little banties into your box...

Any word about our lil quacks yet?

May or may not go to Chickenstock to get some chicks. We want to get 3 Silkies, at least one white one, and 3 EEs/Americana, BF wants one that lays green eggs.
We would like to get them before June but we aren't opposed to going to Chickenstock either. There is a graduation party that same day so we can't stay too long if we go.
