For Granny. That is so hard to do.

I cant get past this heat. I dread getting in the vehicle to drive anywhere and I feel awful for the chicks as they are forced to find shelter all day then it finally starts to cool off and oops Bedtime Guys!

Welcome Frances!

Lost a black austrolorp on Friday - no sign of predator...she was simply lying under a protective area that we have for them. Opa, it was the smallest of the 3 that we adopted from you.
Ok, I REALLY need to free up an area for the new chicks...so without building a new coop, I'm looking for input on introducing 10 8 wk olds to the adult flock.
The SLW's (4) which are beautiful btw, joined the adult flock just fine..they were probably 10 weeks old - Ellen, this will be the last time that I ask - what was the hatching date for this group? Thanks!

No problem. They hatched 2/24. I still have one girl left that I will keep for my layer flock. She is such a sweet girl.

Sam, I'm so sorry to hear about granny's little dog. I had to put my girl down a few years ago, and still think about her most days. They become such a part of our lives.

Hope everyone is surviving this heat. It's not my cup of tea. I'd love to have those 60-70 days back.

Good Morning! Promises to be another hot day. I got my veggie garden done!

Worked all day yesterday on it. Now I can move on to my flower garden, that looks more like a weed garden right now. Have a good day!

Chickflick, I am going to buy flowers today! Would love to get the rest of the garden/ flowers/ herbs in before the weekend. It would be so nice to just have a relaxing holiday!

We are supposed to have rain tomorrow so that is a good incentive to work my butt off today! Good luck to you today! Stay hydrated, it's going to be a hot one!

Good Morning, All! Our goslings arrived this morning and all 8 are doing very well. They're alert, active and seem to know just what they need to be doing -- eating and drinking. I've got them in a laundry basket lined with a towel at my feet for now and later this afternoon when it's good and hot we'll take them outside to play for a bit. It's amazing how quickly I forget between batches of babies how cute it is to watch them get their legs cooperating with them. There is one little girl in the group who is smaller than all the rest, but also probably a bit more precocious too. I hate to play favorites, but she's it.

Well found a cheap place to get some bread for the chickens and pigs 25.00 for a truck load. I also have eggs in the bator bought an egg turner had to customize to fit in the round incubator but it works great. Hope everyone is enjoying the weather and getting gardens put in.

Opa- how are your new additions doing? Can you send me a pic of the trios that you were speaking to me about during your last visit.

Good Afternoon!

Jon got the A/C working and I am happy! But I am on the computer in our garage/rec room and it doesn't have air! Not too bad with the doors open

Off to check on the chickens.

Hey everyone. I wish I had more time to keep up with this thread. I feel so behind!
I'm loving this weather!

I just noticed that one of my little girls isn't a girl.

Does anyone want to trade my Barnevelder rooster for a female chocolate egg laying breed (or possibly an easter egger..or make me an offer

) His color is amazing and this photo is horrible.

Granny is watching American Idol and they sure have a lot of big names on there tonight. I was shocked to see Joe Cocker. The last time I remember seeing him he had wild long hair and was about my age. Tonight he was an old man with short grey hair. What's up with that?

Of course I guess I shouldn't be surprized. Today I stopped at a greenhouse and they had a sign that said "senior day". One young girl called out the items on my cart to the girl on the cash register. He has 10 at $1.99 and 4 at $2.99 minus the 15%. I was grateful for the discount, I think.

Man it has been hot out. We have been trying to get a project done each evening so we don't have so much to over the weekend.. Mowing, landscaping, and putting fencing up. Between the heat and mosquitos it is not very pleasant. It looks like it is gonna cool down for the weekend.
