Hi Tiffini,
I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. How awful.
I hope the kids can understand that the dog wasn't evil or anything...it's just being a dog. My little poodle killed all my baby ducks when I was a kid. Dogs will be dogs. They have to be trained from puppyhood, and then you have to have the right breeds.
Yours is so big, I hope you can keep it out of there, now that it's tasted blood. Were you in an stormy area where the electricity went out for your dog's fence? Or doesn't it work that way...

I guess its about time I quit lurking...

Hello all,
Bob here in Nottawa, MI (St. Joseph county). Started my chicken experience April 19, 2010. Wife, 2 kids (girl age 8, and boy age 5), and 6 "Reds" from TSC. Yup, I'm livin' the dream. The day job is pharmacist but I think of my true profession as "Gentleman Farmer" Some of my other hobbies include: Computer nerd, beer homebrewing, sailing, and gardening.

Cheers

I explained it to the kids this morning. They were heartbroken, but they seem to understand. We really aren't sure how she got out of the invisible fence. The 3 we have left are lonely and a little chilly, so I had the heat lamp on them this morning. We went to TSC in Fenton and got some more EE's, RIR's, ISA Browns, and Black Sex Links this morning also. I'll have to post some pictures later

Sorry for your loss Tiffini and congrats on the new chicks!! Our ISA Brown is the coolest chicken. I wish I would have bought a few more, but I didn't know what they are like. I bought 2 GLW and 1 SLW instead. Oh well! I wanted a few different breeds and thought they were cool looking when grown. Maybe next year I will have more room to get some more ISAs. I also have a RIR, BO and 3 EEs My daughter thinks it's so cool when we buy green/blue eggs. Now we will hopefully have some of our own in a couple months! Can't wait to see pictures of your little cuties!! Good luck to you!

Another one who has quit lurking.
Hello Folks. First time posting here, intending to add to the Michigan people so hope this works. That said, here we go...
We've got a farm southwest of Ann Arbor and have lots of birds. chickens: Welsummers and others, Lilac, Blue Slate and Royal Palm turkeys, and India Blue peafowl. Anyway, just a Howdy and now if this is posted right I'll slip over to the Michigan Chickenstock posts. Perhaps someone there will be interested in some Blue peacocks.

Had 2 turkey vultures in the back yard for quite a while this afternoon. Check my pulse to make sure they weren't there for me.

Got the large fowl coop cleaned and then took the eggs out of the incubator and placed them in lock down. When I did I discovered that I had shattered the top of a blue orpington egg a few days ago when I candled. I thought the egg was dead and without checking I opened it to discover a live chick 3 days shy of hatching. I didn't notice that the membrane hadn't be broken. So because I didn't check I will be bringing one less chick to Chickenstock.

and welcome to bluezip & IndyBlu. Hope to see you at chickenstock!

I spent the day painting the ceiling and rafters of the "new" coop. I hope to finish painting the rest of the inside tomorrow.

I just checked and I have a pulse so as soon as I can get this coffee down I should be able to get my day going. Lots to do today, in fact all week is going to be pretty busy. We got a couple of jobs going that I need to be at, got to get passport photos taken and submit my CCW renewal, pick ujp the chickens and brine them, chicks due to hatch on Wednesday, smoke chickens on Thursday, Friday load my truck with the things for Chickenstock. Then it will be Saturday and I will get to meet many of you.
