Opa, I don't think you have "mucho lazy". How could you possibly be when you seem to always be doing something. I would love to see pics of the new coop when you are finished.

Good Morning!

Bummed when I checked on the meat chickens this morning, 2 dead ones. I put the heat lamp on them to make sure they were warm enough and I think that is what did it. They keep moving through the night and don't just lay down and stay put. So no more heat lamp for them. Surprising that after 13 years of raising meat chickens this is the 1st year that I have had this issue.

Get to drive up to MSU at lunchtime and pick up my oldest two. Will be glad that they will be here to do their chores

And of course a stop at the MSU Diary Store is a must also!

HBH- Glad they figured out what is wrong. It is nice to have a name to say so folks don't think your crazy since the Dr's don't know

Off to go and fold laundry....the never ending job!

I bought a bunch of speckled sussex chicks and was told there may be a few mixed. There are some that are not getting any white on them. Are they a certain breed or do you think they're mixed with sussex? The top one is darker then the others...he looks rough cause he just got done trying to swim in the water bowl lol. The bottom two pictures are of the same chick. Thanks!

Was just told by the person who sold them to me that they may be barnvelders. I don't know that breed at all...the top one (darker one) does look like one but most of the other ones are lighter then him...does anyone have experience with this breed?

sorry about the multiple messages...he (the person i got them from) just sent me this email...does anyone agree?? I don't plan on keeping them so I'd like to know what they are before I get rid of them!
this is his email to me after I sent him the exact same pictures above:

that looks to be a welsummer roo although I also hatched barnevelders out in that same time frame. The lighting wasn't the greatest when Babette was here, so you might have a mixture of Barnevelders and wellsummers in that bunch. They will all be purebreds though as each breed was in separate pens. The Barnies will have flecking like the sussex, but will be more dark and have no white in them. Welsummers, will be a tan brown and their striping seems to run down the length of their bodies as opposed to barring across the body

Yeah, I figured out which ones were speckleds really easily...these are some of mine enjoying a drink out of the bowl they like to "swim" in lol. They were hatched out in late april/early may.

Did they attend the 4-H exploration days that was there this week? I just got back from there today myself. I am the CCA for our county. I also got to be one of the judges for the state awards. It was the first time I have ever judged a state award, and I have to say it was a great experience. I would probably do it again if I were asked. Did they have a good time? I know that all my girls had a great time. As did I.

Yup they were up there! They had a great time and learned lots. Emily learned about rabbits and showing for one of her classes and can home and worked with her rabbit. She has never done any showmanship with her and she did it perfectly! VICKI- thanks for such a perfect showmanship rabbit

Our county is Livingston. We had a young lady win the BIG scholarship and 1st in Dogs. Another got 2nd in horticulture. Proud of all the kids that participated

A friend of mine called this past week. She had a question on Ameraucana's. A friend of her's purchased chicks from someone by them and said they were purebreed Ameraucana. My friend saw them, and they have feathered feet! The guy called the breeder and she said the feathered feet is part of the old heritage of the Ameraucana breed. NOT! Come to find out she has other breeds at her place, including Bramha's. So the guy got screwed on getting what he wanted.
