thanks rose - she's not the friendliest hen around and I think we'll have to do some excavating along the side of the coop in order to get her and the eggs - after dark of course....should prove to be another adventure in our chicken raising days!
BTW, Buttercup and his SLW are housed now w/14 Cinammon Queens....they'll all be joing the adult flock soon...hoping that by adding so many at one time, the bickering and picking will be kept to a minimum! What's your guess?? -

I have moved a couple of broody's already this year. I put the nest materials, eggs, and bird in something first, and then moved the entire nest to the new location. Doing this after dark was the most sucessful.

Wylie- Yep, my broncitis is allergy related. Usually I am exposed to mold somewhere (Hmm imagine that on a farm

) and then my allergy attack moves into a sinus infection and then broncitis. We've kept it under control for a few years now, until this spring. This time I was mulching the vegtable garden with leftover hay from last season. As soon as I hit a moldy spot I ran to the house and took some allergy medicine and did a sinus rinse. What I really think is the issue is that we did not kill everything off after my attack earlier this year. I'm going to take a double dose of antibiotics this time and make sure they have done their job. I will then be hiding from all hay and mold that comes in my way.

I have a fellow 4H friend who has a small flock of seabrights she would like to sell. 4 pullets 1 roo, gold laced and black and white ones. She can be contacted via email, [email protected], if anyone is interested. I think she said 30 for the flock.

Ellen, I hope you are feeling better soon. This humidity has my asthma acting up so I am having a bit of trouble breathing too.

I am asking for prayers for my DFIL. He went in yesterday for emergency surgery because his gall bladder ruptured. Some of his organs started to fail before surgery. Now they are keeping him on a respirator and in a coma. The gallstone was as big as a bratwurst! He went in last week Monday with stomach pains and found out that he had to have his gallbladder out. They couldn't schedule him in till this week Wednesday because they only do this type of surgery on Wednesday and last Wed was already booked up.

Hi, I'm new to BackYard Chickens.

We are going to be getting our first chickens in the next few weeks. We are getting 10 3yr old chickens, and 10 currently 5-6 week old chickens from a friend of our neighbor. All Egg Layers, a mix of Leghorns, Island Red's, and Plymouth Rocks.

My hubby and I have finally decided on a coop.

I know in the next few weeks I am going to have tons of questions. So, I am taking it all one step at a time. First thing being to get the ground level where the coop is going, and to bring home the lumber and screws....

My wee chicks are growing up and getting more and more feathers every day.

There are some raspberry and black berry bushes growing wildly on the other side of the fence and a few ripe berries were within reach so I picked them and let the chicks have them. Boy did they go crazy chasing each other around for the berries!

I also found out that my uncle got some white ducks this year and while they are allowed out and about they always come home to their room in the house at night. He lives on some fairly secluded property with a river running through it, so I imagine they are very happy ducks.

Wait til they find tomatoes!!!! They love anything red- strawberries, raspberries---these ones stain the beak a little so I can always tell who the culprit is. Chicken wire is a wonderful thing- keeps my garden to me and not the chickens.
