Put together a 10x10 kennel and added it to the one I already had. I placed a gate panel between the two and currently the Welsummer have accessto both sections. I probably will build an additional coop to attach to the new section. This way I can divide the birds if necessary. I'm going to move the tractor a substantial distance from the rest of the coops so that I will have it to use for isolation. Sure glad I only wanted 3 or 4 hens. Can you imagine what might have happened if I had wanted a bunch.

I sold 2 lavender Ameraucana roosters, one black Ameraucana rooster, and 2 3- year old hens. I tryed to sell the roosters for a month with no takers, so off to the auction we went. We lost money on them, but I don't have to feed them and take care of them

I worked on coops and cages today too! did some unexpected work too! The pigs lifted up a piece of hog panelling and went for a joy run....right towards my garden...and chicken wire won't stop a pig... but me running with a stick does! Fence is fixed for now.

2 4-H sisters came over and took the pair of buff cochins Rachel got last night to take to the fair. So at this moment, all the birds on the farm are wanted

12 bantam pullets and hens, 5 call ducks, 12 pullets, about 15 laying hens, and 33 meat chickens. This amount is very manageable!

Well this day is certainly going to start off with a bang, two actually. As soon as it was barely light enough to see the coops I looked out just in time to see several racoons strolling along side the poultry fence. They were out of sight almost before it registered in my mind what they were. I went out and checked the birds and everyone was fine and the two live traps I had set each contained a racoon. Looks like I need to set the traps again tonight. The two I caught were both young as were the ones I saw leaving. If there are young ones around there must be adults as well and that is a situation I won't tolerate.

I've got a rifle at the ready waiting for the coyote we saw last week to show its self again. I'm sure that if I were to put the gun away it would return.

Granny has been in Muskegon for the last ten days and when I talked with her yesterday she was ready to come home. She likes going to visit my brothers but says while she has a nice time it just isn't home. Neither of my brothers have gardens, or chickens, nor can she look out their windows and see wildlife. My brother had told her that he would bring her home early today and I guess she told him she could easily be ready to go a 5am. I think she is anxious to see how the garden is doing.

Sorry about your birds, those are some heavy losses. Have you considered a livestock guardian dog? Another trick that helps here is leaving a radio playing in our barn 24/7. I have some belgian quail d'anvers for sale if you would like some of those.

No not really but thank you for the offer. I am still looking though if anyone else has any birds.

Trying to get things done outside sure is a pain today. It's much hotter than it appears. Even though I watered yesterday many of the plants were looking rather wilted. I turned the sprinklers on at 4pm and just now turned them off and everything was standing back up again.

Hi everyone! Been so busy. Helping son get his new home ready to be moved in. He's renting a house in Bath. Nice house, but owner did not know how to clean. Took 1 1/2 hrs to clean one bathtub! YUCK!! Been painting and cleaning, and painting and cleaning and..... you get my drift. My body aches, but so much more to do. Got to get them in by the end of the month. Now, who's gonna clean my house??? Krisrose is taking care of my animals and all we have to pay her is with fudge pops. Pretty cheap, so if anyone needs a animal sitter I know one.

PM me for her number! Oh, and a free rooster will go with the cheap sitting. Finally got some rain. It's been missing us quite a lot. Just one less thing I have to do before I go to Bath...again. Take care......

The meat turkeys and extra roos went into the processor yesterday. We also got the nest boxes built for the bantam coop and coops and brooders cleaned out. This is a picture of one of the chicks that hatched from Mrschickendad. Looks like a cochin right? The color is stumping me. The little feathers on the wings are the greyish color too, not white. What do you guys think?

It is so cute and sweet.

The choices are white cochin and mille fleur cochin. The Sussex pen and the MF pen are close together and eggs are almost the same size, so I expect that one got mismarked. My MF hen's eggs are nearly as big as the Sussex eggs (which aren't all that big). Sure looks MF to me—their color is all over the place right now.

CUTE!
