Hello all!

If anyone is interested, I've got 4 BANTAM Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock chicks, 6 weeks old, for sale. They'd be great for showing in 4H because they're so rare...very few people have them. All must go together...$15 for all 4. The 3 roosters are penciling in very differently, so keeping all 3 until maturity would be best in order to choose the best one for showing. Anyone interested in them can just pm me.

Hope everyone is doing good

re farm markets, down in this neck of the woods anybody selling baked goods or such has to have a commercial food license AND the food police check for them. At the A2 farmer's market one man had his entire batch of bread pitched in the street because he couldn't prove he had a license. Also, things have to be wrapped and marked with the ingredients (I think this is still part of the new law they have passed.)
We've had a couple of rain showers come through here, cooled things down nicely. I can't believe the tomatoes are already turning red - Romas! Seems early, or am I just losing track of time? It's your birthday Wiley? Have a happy one!

I just got back from RI a little while ago, and I'm trying to wind down. Friday was a nightmare. My flight to RI from Detroit was canceled at the last minute. I was in panic mode because they had me on a flight the next day which was when my brother's wedding was. I would not take no for answer, and told them I don't care if I have to sit in the bathroom on the plane, I NEED to get there tonight! I was almost in tears.

So, they finally got me on a flight at 9:45pm ( it was around noon) straight to Providence. I was stuck at Metro for over 8 hours, bored, pacing, and randomly walking to the different terminals to kill 8 plus hours of time. I now absolutely HATE that airport. Anyway, I didn't get in to Providence until almost midnight, and I was exhausted.

The wedding went very well, and we all had a good time.

My new sister in law was driving us to the airport this morning, and she got a flat tire on the highway. So I almost missed my flight home today. I swear RI has it in for me. Something always happens when I go there.

Thank you to everyone who had confidence in me. We still want it to make it our goal to change the ordinance as well. In our minds the Township law should go with the State law.

I had a very nice woman stop by today. She bought 6 chicks from TSC in the spring. Told they were all girls and at least one is a rooster. I told her of a farm where she may be able to rehome it. But also hooked her up with all the info about MRTFA and GAAMPS. Want her to be prepared for when the Twp knocks on her door. She told me when she called toe Township to see if they were aloud. That they are not, but there is a green movement to get them aloud here. I just happen to be on the Green Team in Bangor Township. Could that be me? LOL

We have decided to have chicken keeping classses here at the Balwinski Farm. Just basic info, a care guide for chicks, etc. and how to go about things with the state to get around the Twp. I think we owe it to our many supporters. Plus it is actually recommended by the MDA as part of community education.

On another note. I have a broody girl sitting on 8 eggs. She gets off her eggs twice a day for food, water and a poo. Is that normal? How long can the eggs be without her body heat and still be viable? They are 8 days incubated today. When or even should we candle them? Also should we move her to the brooder within the coop? It has its own attached playpen. If we should, when? I tried to move her once just to the other side of the coop. (She decided to take up her nest in a doorway) and she rolled her eggs back. She seems to be a good sitter I guess. She fights the other hens for her spot. But when I had other cochins go broody they bit me. Shes still sweet. She coos to me and I swear I have heard her talk to the eggs. Its so cute.

Iluvcks I think that is great that you went beyond just getting to keep your chickens and are trying to help and teach others in your community. Great Job!!!

Well we added a new animal to our little chicken farm. A little free black kitten. She is gonna live outside with access to the feed shed for bad weather. Only 8 weeks old, so 8 more weeks till she can get fixed. The mice are just having a field day out and around the feed shed. They can't get into the feed cause we keep it in big metal garbage cans, but any spills or messes from chickens and really how can you keep your chickens from making a mess, just keeps the mice coming. Tomorrow I will call our vet to come out and check the kitten over. It's kinda nice when the vet lives 5 houses down from us.

Fair is going well so far! Poultry show was today and the kids did well! My daughter Rachel was going to take our BLRW rooster but when washing him the day before, we think he inhaled a bit of water and didn't act like he was feeling well the next day, so we left him home to recuperate and took a young cockerel we had bought from Mrschickendad, he is only about 4 months, but the judge loved him and brought him back for best male. Unfortunately he did get beat, but only because he was so young. The good news, he got beat out by our Welsummer for Grand Champion and one of our club members Aseel male for Reserve!!

That member, Emmali, also took reserve champion breeder pen with her aseels.

Our wellie was shown by Rachel's boyfriend and club member Anthony. The both showed Freedom Ranger meat birds also, that we purchased as chicks from Ellen (zephyrcreek) the judge commented they were the best conditioned birds on the table. One batch won reserve champion and the other pen took third out of 8 pens. Rachel also took reserve champion waterfowl with our pilgrim gander. All in all, a good day!

Cool. Need volunteers for the chicken keeping class?

If you have partridge cochin chicks next spring, I may have to get some from you.

We are just getting things set up to do our first one. But if you have ideas or want to be a speaker on a particular thing that would be wonderful. Thank you

I wish they were partridge cochins. But we don't have any roosters. They were given to us by a great friend. they are americunas and cochin americuna mixes. I am so excited. Gabby is my favorite, and shes an Americuna. Of course she also spent the better part of 6 months in the house, so I was bound to get attached. LOL

Quick question before bed, I have a 30x10 ft run and I have 1 jap roo, 3 jap hens, 1 MF Belgian D'Uccle roo, 1 standard EE pullet , and 1 standard Aussie pullet. Can I put them all in there without the roos fighting?
