That is great news! I remember getting ready for the fair in my 4-H days. I showed horses, rabbits, and entered a few crafts. Those are some greast memories you and your daughter are making!

Cathy, those ducks are not only GIANTS but LOUD all the time. My camper is about 75 foot away from their pen and I can hear them all night long quacking for no reason.. The first night I ran out there every time I heard them thinking something was after them. Nope just being loud mouths LOL Thanks again Cathy, they will make a nice edition to my breeding program and for egg donations to the schools for the students to hatch.

Welcome M&T

Sarah tell your girl congrats and job well done please.

michickenwrangler congrats to you and your daughter. When daughter and I were showing at fair it was some of the fondest memories I have to this day. Its such a bonding pleasure.

Scrummy Cat Best coyote catcher there is. 6' dog cable, 1# of bacon, large catfish trouble hooks. Attach the cable around a tree branch and leave the clip aprox 3 1/2 to 4' off the ground. Clip on the trouble hooks and bait with the bacon. Put any kind of dripping below the hook on the ground. Its not a pretty sight come morning so take your gun with you. And make sure to please notify all neighbors about their dogs is it will hook anything that takes the bait. Friend of our just used this same method and captured 5 in one week. Seems they dont remember seeing their other pack stuck in the tree.

Also fly bait and pepsi or coke set out will kill anything too...but that is very dangerous for all other critters even your own.

Its been war here at my farm for a bit over a month. Between my dobe female and myself playing Elmer Fudd every night, I doubt by fall I'll have any critter walking around here uninvited. My new rescue kitten even caught a mole last night when he was on a leash outside LOL so everyone around here is doing their part.

I had to do something though. They got all my Isa browns that were left after I was robbed and 3 ducks in about a months time. I had had, enough!

Oopsey, I know, those ducks really put the quack in quackers. The two buffs are even worse, they have the laughing quack and are even louder than the cresteds! I'm so happy they will have such a good home with you.

Cathy you dont have to worry about the cresteds. They are in a 12 x 12 x 10 foot high enclosed pen with an igloo dog house to rest in at night And this pen is about bullet proof. I'll start putting them one by one with my flock of geese so they learn to come up and in at night with the rest of them Boy Cottage Rose sure has some tips about bringing up geese and ducks for the night. Only took me and my dobe about a week to get them trained. Now we walk out in the pasture and they all just head for the barn. And who would have thought you could ever teach a Doberman to herd birds. LOL

I am picking up a sportsman cabinet incubator tomorrow and would like to get it running steady by Monday. If anyone has some pekin or pekin cayuga cross eggs let me know. Also if anyone would like to incubate I dont mind doing your eggs for you. I'll have it on anyway. So start collecting as this bator can hold almost 200 eggs at a time. And hatch rates on these are at least 95%

Enjoy your weekend.

Hey Gang - my niece is visiting and removed incubating eggs from broody hen and brought them in the house earlier today. We're about 1.5 wks into the gestation....and they were removed probably between 2-5 hours. Shall I toss the eggs and start over? Thanks for any/all help!

3 wks ago I shut my incubator down and moved it. 2 wks after I heard a pee pee and a darn pekin duck egg had hatched . I dont know why I left it in the bator I thought I removed all the spoiled ones when I moved it. Guess not. Im starting to believe that as long as there is some sort of heat they will hatch. Id put them back under her and candle them in about another week. Worth a try.

Good evening all. Sounds like everyone is having fun and doing well in their fairs.

Ooopsy, that sounds like one heck of a way to catch a coyote.

We have been so busy getting the yard ready for the graduation party and now they are talking about storms on Saturday. We have an awning, a gazebo, and 4 canopies. I saw we are gonna enjoy the yard one way or another.

Thanks Sam and Oopsy...i"m just REALLY frustrated. We had a wedding in Chicago 2 wknds ago and had left our hens in the hands of a neighbor boy who has been very helpful to us this summer....we went over everything with him, had a very detailed listing, and even though we had the broody hen w/eggs separated from the rest of the flock, he removed the eggs w/out fully understanding of course,,,,,but all in all, this was a hen who had flown OVER the enclosure, burrowed under the hen house, laid her eggs for numerous days....we suspected that she had been sacrificed to the hawk until I saw here out by the stream guzzling and then running for cover back to the hen house....I went out and on my hands and knees, found her under the house, with her eggs! We left here there for another week, then excavated her and the eggs....only to have the eggs removed and all w/in 5 or so days of hatching....when the eggs were returned to her, she broke them all...so this is the 2nd time we've been thru this disappointment!
We'll try for a hatching; have returned the eggs to her....by the way Sam this is one of the BA's that you gave us - we call her Black Broody....time will tell and I'll keep you all posted...

The first "Good Morning" and it's 10am?? Wow! Everyone outside doing chores? Hmmm.... maybe I should be out there too! Oh well.... I'm done painting and cleaning and I'm just exhausted and not feeling up to par, so have been moving pretty slow the last few days. Have a good day all.
