Thank you for the words of wisdom on the horses. We actually already have a vet that comes to the farm and is much cheeper than taking any of my animals anywhere. He also lives 5 houses down. Do you all have those pretty white fences or do you run electric? We actually would even have enough property to plant and bale our own hay. The barn and fencing would be the first big thing to get done. Like I said it will be a few years, but it is actually looking like it might happen.

We went fishing in Flatrock today. Didn't catch much but my cousins little boy caught his 1st first fish ever, and Brody my 7 year old caught his 1st bass.

I have wood 3 slat wood up against the road so there is no way for a horse to get out. Then to split pastures other than around my home (is also oak fencing) is T posts with bulldozer fence charger. They learn that fence bites and they dont come any where near it. I plug it in about about once a month as a reminder. LOL

If you are intrested in putting up cedar posts and oak fencing, I have a man up near my other house in Alpena that sells 8-9 inch cedar post for $3 and 8' kiln dried boards that are ruff sawn and plained on one side for, 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 x 8' long for $2 each. You can no way find that here in southern part of Michigan. Its cheaper than T posts and hot wire.

Contact me when you are ready or anyone else that would like to put up pretty oak fencing for their birds, or livestock

Well Gretchen went out to collect eggs and came running in about an hour ago. One of Emily's white call ducks is dead. She was on her back with her neck curved around, about 1 foot from the coop building. My guess is she flew into the coop and broke her neck. Poor thing! Emily is at camp and we are going to freeze the duck so we can have a funeral next week when Emily and Rachel get home.

Off to get the kids ready for bed.

sorry about the little duck, Sarah. I didn't think call ducks could fly at all. Oopsey, thanks for the tip on the fencing - I can't believe those prices, fantastic. Loved the pics of your horses too, they are beautiful. I agree with your philosophy to let the horses and basically all the animals we keep live as close to nature as intended in order to prevent problems and prolong lives. That goes for us human animals too.

Hah! Try riding 25 miles down a disty trail in it, with horse sweat flicking back into your face!

Just got back from Day 1 and Day 2 of the GLDRA Shore to Shore Endurance Race (we're NOT the Michigan Trail Riders) and my horse and I won both days in our weight division!

This was my horse's first multi-day ride in 10 years but she did great. To give you an idea of what we did. On Sun we rode from Oscoda's River Road Camp to Lake Huron and back. Then yesterday we rode from River Road to the South Branch camp for a total of 50 miles in 2 days. She's old enough now I don't attempt the whole 250 miles and I don't have a rotation horse, so we quit while we were ahead. I even got to take her swimming in the Au Sable River afterward. That was fun!

Here's a picture of us 2 weeks ago on the banks of the AuSable River on a conditioning ride.

That is great!! Great picture too. My DH will be doing some work up in that area and taking our trailer up there to Oscoda to stay. The kids and I are hoping to sneak up and visit. It is such a pretty area.

Looks like a sunny day today! The rain went all around us.... I heard the storms but they never came our way... so I had to water this morning..

Well a bunch of cockrels here and they are just starting to learn to do the Rooster thing so it is something different. Only now have to explain why the Cockrels are "Picking" on the Pullets to a 7 yr old here she keeps trying to break them up and yelling at the Cockrels. Guess it is time for the birds and bees speach huh.

Thanks everyone! My 3 year old came out and did chores with me wondering where the duck was and if putting it in the freezer would help it get up and walk around again. The minds of the young amaze me!

Trying to get motivated to get some work done. I weeded 4 hours on Monday and my hamstrings are so tight, that I can barely walk still!!!! Probably walking 3.5 miles yesterday with a friend didn't help...but I thought it would! Jon laughed at me this morning trying to bend over and get laundry out of the basket to hang on the line.

Enjoy your day!

Sarah
