It's been a LONG day already!! So, I started the day trying to get the ducks into the duck pen. Finally after about 10 minutes, they went in. But 20 minutes later I decided to clean the pond. Problem with that is our pump died so it all has to be bailed by buckets/bowls. Ugh. Aric left to do an errand for his daughter and I wanted to do something to surprise him. Why did I choose that?? LOL

However, believe it or not, that wasn't the hard part, even with the pain in my jaw and mouth! To make a long story short, I had 2 episodes of escaping chickens! Then I noticed my 3 smallest Calls were flying, so I had to chase them down to clip their wings! Oh wow!!

Now that I can finally sit...

Kim, I felt so bad for Jax this morning. He was just standing in the middle of the chicken run staring at me and quacking non-stop! I knew he was confused and no one was paying him any attention! I kept talking to him and he just wasn't moving! Finally I opened both doors and let the ducks run around the yard. He seemed ok with that. But once I got the pond cleaned out and let them back in the duck run, it was just what it took to get him to relax more!

The whole time Jax was in the chicken pen he didn't touch one chicken. I don't know what he did before I went out there. They were out there for a few hours before I went out so I don't know what happened after I left him last night and all this morning. He hasn't gone after one chicken! I have a feeling my roosters and other male ducks and some of the larger hens put him in his place! At one point (pic below) I noticed Opie biting on Jax too!

Everyone on their morning stroll. Jax seemed a bit confused where to go but he loved it!

My favorite pic of our newest sweetheart! It's like he was posing for this one!

Opie biting on Jax. "Ha! Take that! How does that feel?" LOL

By the way, last night when I took Jax out of the carrier, I held onto him and he hugged me! This morning he was really confused about going back into the duck run so I picked him up. He did it again. He's just so sweet!! My little Calls hugged me too when I picked them up to clip their wings. Now I definitely know why ducks are my faves!!

Time to go relax on the couch and crochet...or maybe nap first lol

yep, he is a hugger- he used to do that sitting on my lap, while I was on the computer, when he was a bitty little duck. *sniff* Im glad he is fitting in there. He will figure out the layout and the routine soon.

He's been following Sadie all day. Maybe not being around chickens all day has helped!!

I posted a couple of those pics for another reason and I forgot to ask. This is for anyone really. If you notice on Opie (the first duck in the first pic for those that don't know), his beak is turning yellowish from the all gray that it was. Is that normal? Sadie's isn't changing so it's made me worry. I don't think it's diet. All the ducks eat duck feed with fresh fruits and/or veggies twice a week.

I can get a better pic if anyone needs it!

Hey Rose and Krista!

I tried to call you Rose last Thursday, but the # I have is no longer in service - PM me your new # - Well, remember the trio that you both so graciously gave us at CKNSTK? Well, we received our first white egg from one of the hens on Thursday last week, and hmmmmm guess whose strutting around the yard lookin all pretty and playing Romeo with whomever will show any attention his way??? - Yup, the buff! So now we have 3 roosters....he hasn't uttered a crow, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time...I suspected he may be a roo a few weeks ago, and didn't say a WORD TO Steve, but I had no choice when we both noticed the spurs beginning to develop! I think we'll be fine! Getting plenty of eggs per day now that the newbies are layin; Krista, if you would like the known egg eater to adorn your yard, you are welcome to her.....PM me and we'll work out the details.
It's been a beautiful fall, Gimpy (Steve) is improving; last visit to the surgeon resulted in him walking into the room and exclaiming, "UGH, that looks terrible!"...grabbing some gauze, and he began digging the scab off of the wound until Steve pulled his leg back in resistance stating very properly, "couldn't you at least give me a bullet to bite on!" - Steve has since been cleaning the wound out daily, peroxide, and triple antibiotic cream and I woudl say that the last wound has healed about 35-40% in the last 10 days! Prior to that there was minimal improvement!
Gotta run, just got back from a week end in the Chicago area - and if ANYONE knows a reliable house/chicken sitter, please pass the information along to us!
May we continue to enjoy a beautiful fall season!

'Evening everyone! It is/was a bit chilly out there today. I definitely could have made do with a little more sun. I guess Mother Nature didn't want us to forget to stock up on horse-tranquilizer sized Vitamin D supplements before winter sets in and we're all deficient again.

I've had a roast in the oven most of the day, it certainly helps make the house feel warmer even if the actual temperature is unaffected.

I was talking with my mom today and she mentioned that Bill Steffan of Wood TV 8 in G.R. had predicted early snow this year. She said we're supposed to expect significant snowfall by early to mid November. Has anyone else heard the same? I had heard that it was going to be a cold and snowy one, but hadn't heard the predictions for early arrival of the white stuff. Time will tell...

Glad you're getting eggs finally, Nancy! Another roo....sorry!

I think I would have slapped that doctor up side the head, Steve! That sounded painful. Hope it heals quickly. I texted you my phone number, Nancy. It's the same, so don't know why it didn't go thru. If I lived closer, I would be glad to sit for your house and chickens! Told Kristen to check out your message. Take care!

I would love to give your egg eater a new home. Perhaps having to find her position in a new flock will keep her mind off eggs lol.

hi guys.......... anyone wish to help out a kitty in need? We opened our house door to go into our garage lastnight and there was a tiger kitty wanting to come inside. She is pretty much starved, nothing but skin and bone.... we've fed her and she has a warm box in the garage at the moment. We're not cat people! I'd hate to take her to the shelter as I know they'll put her down. She is young and quite friendly.
Please pass this on to anyone you know who may do cat rescue or would be willing to take her.

We weren't set to go into lockdown until today, but I did it late last night so I could candle the eggs as I took them out of the turner -- kill two birds with one stone -- well, it's a good thing I did. We already have a pip. Little stinker. Here's hoping his brothers and sisters decide to make an appearance early, too. Otherwise I'm going to have to do the "grab the chick and slam the 'bator shut, QUICK" trick before the week's out.

Good Morning!

With Rachel sick, she didn't get pictures of her trio that is for sale. Hopefully today!

Off to call the doctor for 2 of the kids to be seen and the vet, as the dog ripped most of a toe nail off and he cannot walk on that leg now.

Busy day
