I hope everyone had a good day. or at least as non-stressfull as possible!
We had a great time at Tweek's cousin Ann's.

I had to trick the hens. I spread scratch in their coop run area and put dried meal worms in their goodie bowl.
After they were in and I shut the gate they looked at me like I was crazy! It was daylight and I locked them in! How dare I!!!

Good morning every one!

Wow, a whole day without a post on the MI thread.

Everyone must have been shopping for their bargains! Good Morning! I did not go shopping... we had our Thanksgiving yesterday. All 4 or my kids and their children came. Krisrose even crashed the party! Lots of good food to go around and the desserts were awesome. Was great having all the kids together again. Sure is cold outside. I got to go out and take care of the critters and I don't want to!

Just finished cleaning the kitchen after yesterday's day of pigging out. No more excuses...wait, got to go feed the parakeets and goldfish....that will give me some extra time in the warm house! Take care and have a good day, all!

We are contemplate building a "real" coop! The "chicken tractor" is working great, but if we build a permenant one against the garage we can run electricity. I really want a dog bowl heater. I don't like them drinking icewater.
Still no eggs from the girls but as long as they are healthy I am happy.

The come running when we come out with the "goodie bucket" !

Not fond of oatmeal tho. And if I put something on a paper plate, they wont go near it!

Hope you are all recovered from the Holiday! I still feel fat!

Celia, try mixing in a few spoonfuls of yogurt into their oatmeal.....I bet they'll gobble it right up. Every morning, I take the leftover breakfast stuff from my kids and mix it all on one plate and nothing goes to waste You can even serve them up an egg once in a while......sounds crazy, but they love it and the protein is great for them. I know it's hard to be patient, but I bet your ladies are gonna give you some beautiful eggs real soon

I love the Garage coop! It won't work for us tho. We have motorcycles running in there, welding, grinding, gas storage.....
Also, we have NO bare walls! LOL! I "had" to have a huge air compressor etc.....

I am invisioning something like the run area outside the garage coops but with a coop on the left side. I have about 7' from the back of the garage to the window. Thats where I would put the coop. The run would be under the window to the door of the garage (about 10'). From the bottom of the window to the ground is 4'.
Remember, in Troy we can only have 5 hens. Tomorrow we are moving the chicken tractor there till sprin. Then the fun begins!

(Also the girls have full run of the yard in the daytime, run would be for days they don't feel like being out.

Celia, I saw a shed for sale in Grand Ledge. It's a barn type, maybe 8x8. Had no phone number, tho. If you are interested, I can get my son in law to knock on the door for more info and price.

So you found a nest in the woods.....just one? If I were a chicken, I sure would find a nice niche in the woods and lay there than in a nest box.

Seems alot nicer today. Hardly any wind!

Guess we'll have to take the dogs for a walk today. Yesterday I went out to find the waterers frozen so had to put out the electric dog bowls. Winter is here.

Hubby got new Christmas decorations... a chicken and two chicks that light up...so cute! Stay warm, folks!
