I See it. I think it would be easier to see of the body was a more ovular and the ears were not connected. Just a thought.

Thanks for the feedback, I did do one with out the connected ears..and one where I moved the ears... but I do want it to look as "fat" as possible.

Out of the three, I like the third one best. Could you make the shape a little more oval, like a fat oval? And/or put the ears off center like #2, not connected like #3 and put a puff ball tail on there, that might make it look a little more rabbit like.

Silly Chicken, what if you added two small dots for eyes, and maybe slightly reduce the size of the nose and have the nose sit on a round bottomed W to indicate a mouth

I hope everyone here is well. It looks like the winter weather has finally set in. Now we just need snow. If it's going to be cold, at least give me snow to go with it. I'd love to get 9-12 inches in one nice big overnight storm.

Silly -- I can see it. And like the first rendition best.

Celia -- They will get used to the snow. In the meantime you can expedite that process by giving them motivation to go out in it. Tomorrow morning put their food and water outside. They'll be out in minutes and they'll be no worse for wear.

As for the ventilation, keep an eye out for condensation but also just pay attention to the birds. The nice thing is they can tell you if the coop isn't up to par. First thing in the morning is a great time to just listen to them for a few moments. If there is any audible sound when they breath, you have a problem. Also watch their eyes, watery eyes, puffy areas under or around the eyes, etc are a sign of an issue as well.

Just an isolated sneeze with no other symptoms? Nope. Sometimes they'll get something stuck to a nostril and need to clear it, for instance. If you notice her doing it repeatedly or over the course of a few days, then yes. HTH!

Today was our lucky day! We brought home the chickens Frizzledhen needed to re-home. Because we expanded the duck run and gave them their own coop, we had more than enough room to add more chickens. So far so good. They are in the coops checking things out.

This got me to thinking. My daughter is chronologically 20, but emotionally a lot younger due to several disabilities. She is used to living in Lansing where she could catch a bus to go places, even if it's just walking around the mall. But where we are now, she can't do that. She's been having a hard time because her friends from school have moved on because they can drive, or they are away at far away colleges.

I had mentioned this on here before, but didn't really think about it seriously until we brought home these gorgeous chickens! I wonder if someone (Vicki?) can help me get my daughter into showing. I did 4H with goats and horses as a kid, but that was a long time ago and the people that helped me with it are no longer around. I don't know who to contact, when the shows are or anything. It would be PERFECT for my daughter. Part of one of her disabilities is a beyond normal shyness. It might help her plus she could hopefully make some friends.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Keyt,

I would be happy to have your daughter join our 4-H group, but they must be no older than 19, unfortunately. She could however show at regular poultry shows. I have only gone to one so far, but they are similar to other type of shows, rabbit, dog, or even 4-H poultry shows. The only problem is there are not that many or that often in the area, but it would certainly be a great thing to get into. I know Sarah Wylie and her kids also went to the show as did several others. Another possible avenue might be rabbit shows?? There are quite a few of those in the area, Lansing, Mason, Charlotte, Ionia, and more if you want to travel farther. They are usually on Saturdays and last most of the day. You get to know a lot of people and they can be a lot of fun too.

That would work too! Elvis and Gizmo adore Angellica (they are the only things that get her out of the house on a daily basis!) The problem is I've only done cat shows so I don't know what's required. I guess I better start looking stuff up. I don't mind transporting her places at all as long as I have the money, it's just finding age appropriate things. Like with 4H I knew there was a cut off and she was past it chronologically. I think that's also part of her depression because she can't keep up with a lot of her friends.

I am going to try to get her to help me with these new additions. They are a good size for her. Sometimes she's afraid of the bigger chickens but she really seemed to like these!
