I am staying in and going to hopefully get my quilt top put together.

I should go scrape the drooping boards but I think it can wait till tomorrow. I don't want any of the chickens to sneak out. It is too cold to go out today for man or beast.

This is the first year I've wintered over my own chickens. I had Aric go out and turn on the heat lamps then we went to bed. But, I couldn't sleep. I worried about the chickens all night! Not the ducks because there's 19 of them in a fairly small coop so they can huddle up together. But the garage/barn is kinda big even for 50-some chickens. Even though it's tightly closed up and with heat lamps...well, I'm just a worrier. Aric kept telling me they would be fine, but I know how grouchy I get when I'm cold! lol. Needless to say they made it through the night fine

So I had a gift certificate for $25 at Family Home and Garden. But when I went to use it, it wasn't working. The girl asked for my driver's license and when I showed it to her, I had a problem. My license says Katherine, but I use Keyt which is an Irish family name (my mother was from Ireland). Keyt is only legal in my mail and some other stuff but not on my license. Ugh. I asked since when does it matter in gift cards? I have never had a problem before! So she wouldn't even look into why it wasn't working. I'm in there at least twice a month and most of them know me! I share a bank account with my daughter but my name isn't on either the debit or credit cards and they never questioned that!

Speaking of which, I have a question. When we went to buy feed, I saw a great deal on corn...but it was for burners. It was SO much cheaper than feed corn. Can that be fed or not? I saw on the bag it said treated for high heat so I wasn't sure if that was safe. Anyone know?

We don't have a furnace, we heat with a pellet stove. Unfortunately our stove isn't made to burn corn, but I wish it was because it's so much cheaper than the wood pellets!

Keyt, don't worry the chickens will be fine. I just put vaseline on the roosters combs and wattles to help prevent frostbite. Their run looks almost like an igloo right now so it is pretty insulated with all that snow and they will not be allowed out today since the windchill is so cold. I don't use a heat lamp and they have done fine. I couldn't tell you as far as the corn, I think I would be afraid to use it. Than is too bad about the gift card, could you talk to management, maybe if you showed them info with the different names?

I did talk to the manager and she gave me a number to call, but she must have written it down wrong because it was for something else. I think the next time I go in I'll take some mail I have with Keyt on it and she should see that the address there and the one on my license is the same! Grr it's so frustrating. I have never had a problem with the name thing before and I've been using Keyt since 1985!
