Yup...Kalkaska and Fife Lake....snowbelt areas! I would love to move downstate to Eaton county where I grew up and there is less snow. I have Indiana friends that like to come up here for snowmobiling. This IS great for snowmobiling around here....too bad it isn't something we like to do. When we bought up here we figured we might as well have lots of snow with the cold weather so we could enjoy the winter sports! Ha!!!We live on a half mile seasonal road...my husband is constantly snowplowing it and two years ago we had to hire a farmer to haul snow out because there wasn't room to push the snow along the road. It seems we are always 3-5 degrees colder up here too...makes it nice in summers but not winters.

Did I forget to mention that I now live in Eaton County?

No kidding?!!! I'm from Vermontville originally...took livestock to the Eaton County Fair in Charlotte when I was a youngster! Still have lots of friends there.....love that area and the soil is soooo much better than the sand up here. (no offense to anyone up here....just easier to grow downstate). Lucky you!

I live between E.R. and Charlotte. I am a 4-H leader and my kids have been showing at the Eaton County Fair for the last 13 years! Now, I am not a gardener, but I hate the clay here! Probably because we are a low spot in the road and my animal pens turn into a giant mud pit all spring!

Up north, everything drained really well and we had great tasting water, unlike here! However, the weather makes it all worth it!

That and being so much closer to anything and everything!

Hillbilly Hen and Opa,

I am hoping to make it this year, I am looking forward to meeting everyone and to lend a helping hand where I can. Hopefully work doesn't send me out of town that week

Hi all,

Haven't been on in a while and wanted to post some exciting news! I was so excited today when I went out to check on my chickens.

My EE'r, Star who I acquired back in September (2 yrs old then) went into a molt about 2 weeks after I got her and today finally laid me an egg! Yay! I was starting to think she may be all done with eggs, hopefully I don't have to wait another 4 months for another egg!

So ready for spring and SO over this cold weather!!!

....and I'm just around the corner from vicki!!

Hey Opa, forgot to mention I thought of you the other day. I've managed to really get into the new CBS talk show called "The Talk" and they interviewed the guy that plays Victor on The Young and The Restless. He said his granddaughter calls him "Opa" and said its German for grandfather. I actually new that a long time ago and it never hit me til that interview. As soon as he said that I blurted out "HEY! I know a guy that goes by that name!"
