So the final count from this hatch sucks...

Power outage last night did not help at all. I ended up with 9 chicks total. 3 Speckled Sussex, 1 SpeckledxAustorlorp, and 5 SpeckledxBrahmas! LOL I was NOT selling hatching eggs at that time because I had 2 Brahmas, a leghorn, and an Austorlorp(sp?) in with my flock. I didn't realize they were laying though because I originally put them in a seperate coop and no one was laying...guess they decided to sneak a few eggs in when I wasn't looking!

I have to admit though...these Speckled Brahmas and the Speckled Austorlorp are REALLY cool!!! I've never hatched out fuzzy feet before! I'll try to get some pictures later today! If anyone is interested in them I'll be looking for a home for the mixes...Should be awesome looking!! (no fee, just a good home and hopefully some pictures later on to show me what they end up looking like!)

LOL! You all are nicer than we are. I just send her out and tell her good luck.

Actually she LOVES it so I don't bother. I suppose I probably would if I had to...

Well the poor little guy hardly has fur and the snow was deeper than he is tall

Awwww! He's a doll! The snow is WAY deeper than our mini-schnauzer is tall, but she's a hoot. She loves the stuff, goes diving into 4 foot tall drifts head first. Even if I shoveled her a path she wouldn't use it. She's the first small dog I've owned but the breed strikes me different than a lot of small breeds I've seen/met before. They seem to retain the stocky, blocky and muscular build of their larger counterparts and I think that maybe helps with their cold hardiness. She is really substantial for her size. Heavy little monster, she is. She never shows any indication of being cold even right after a clip when her hair is only millimeters long. So that's the best theory as to why I've come up with. I've been impressed with her so far. Not terribly keen on how much more she barks than the larger dogs, but everything else about her we enjoy. Which was a surprise since small dogs don't generally appeal to me.

Opa -- That cake looks delicious! She did a very nice job!

We have a 10 year old Mini Schnauzer and I also have 4 Bouviers, overall I have to say my lil mini is a real joy we adore him, Im not a small dog person either the husband is, but this little guy has great drive and obedience training was too easy for him. And he jus MURDERS the rats and mice around here, he earned his chow thats for sure.

I adopted a little lap warmer two weeks ago. She weighs two pounds. The test for her to live with me was her reaction to the ducks and chickens. Already had a killer, no more for me. So, I took her outside and set her in the duck yard. My giant muscovies all surrounded her- and for a minute, I thought I would have to save her from them. She shook like a leaf, and backed up. So, I let her in my heart. She is the smallest dog I have ever owned. Fullgrown adult- chihuahua/yorkie or papillion mix. Something. My husband says she is a yorkie mixed with rat. She is smaller than my smallest cat.

She lives on my lap.
I am a BIG dog person. Great Danes- my favorite breed. However, something about this little girl brings the maternal instinct out strong.

In this weather, she just shakes. I go out the door- and she stares and shakes and has to decide if following me is worth going out in the cold. She takes a couple steps and I have to pick her up, before she shivers herself to death. lol.

37 Days Til April 1

That has been our experience, too. She's very intelligent, eager to please, retains her "being a real dog" despite her size.

Hello everyone. It's been a long time since I posted here. I have a question about our chickens and knew I could get a stright answer here. We haven't gotten but one egg from our hens in the last 3 weeks or so. Last winter they laid right through. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Larry
