Hi every one. haven't stopped in here before. We have had chickens for 2yrs now, They are so much fun. Hubby built a nice beg coop, and 3 tractors for our birds. One tractor went to my daughter last year. She has had chickens for several years. and last year we split an order of chicks. We did meat birds last year. All went well, we have Amish family about 20min. from our house and they do a very good job for $2 a head. I have given her some rooster's. We live in Belding Mi, about 1/2 hr E. of Grand Rapids. I work for the USPO in Grand Rapids. ........We have 3 Roosters at this time and 21 hens. Different Large breeds, some mutts, hatched out last year. I open the poop door every day to give them the option of going out. they can get under the coop and scratch around and I try to keep an area shoveled and through down some hay, they love to go out and scratch in the hay I toss some scratch mixed with Boss and oats into the hay, keeps them busy, My youngest rooster has just come into his wild teenage mode and is after the hens all the time witch is ticking off the head rooster and he is going after the middle man and the young one. When spring comes 1 or 2 are going. We also have 2 OLD dogs on their last leg. 9 grandchildren, 4 children , one cat.

Welcome Snowflake, I have only been on here for a couple days myself and your fellow Michiganders are really cool, knowledgable, and friendly. I was just talking to a girl that works at the TSC in Lowell about having some birds done by the Amish. Are the Amish you take yours to in Coral?

Wow those O-Shamo's are crazy looking! I just can't decide if it's crazy cool or crazy scare the living day lights out of me. Thanks for sharing the link.

Hey Hillbilly Hen, My daughter lives in Grant, moved from Newaygo about 5yrs ago. And Farmer Andy, I think it is in Coral, it is North of Greenville. I have the address written down some were, the first directions we got from a friend were land mark directions but not hard to find. We go to the Lowell TSC all the time. Hubby will know but he passed out infront of the TV.

Thanks for the input. I got the Chicks and put each of their beaks into the water & now they seem to be drinking. They were in the pen with a heat lamp on one end of the cage. I was out all day watching my little 2 year old grand daughter. She has been sick as she could be. They are giving her breathing treatment every 4 hours. I taught her that baby chicks say "Peep. Peep, Peep" while being with her all day.

From what I can recall, they look like normal chicks, just a bit longer. Give them a few days and they'll look like they came straight out of Jurassic Park!
