Sorry to hear about your thumb Keyt. It's very difficult to have to make tough decisions like you had to make, my thoughts and prayers are with you today.

My hatch went extremely well - i have 6 new Welsummer chicks. I'm posting pictures to see if any of you Wellie experts, especially OPA (who has a high stake in the outcome) can feather sex these little ones. I tried to get all of them in one shot, the one chick underneath the others in picture 2 is the same chick at the bottom of picture 3.

Hello everyone, I havent had much time to post, but I am doing well, very busy time of year.
My EE chicks from TSC are out in the coop with the big uns, in a dog crate so the can see and be near each other.
We put in fencing for the chickens yesterday they now have a huge yard all the way around the coop to play in they love it to.
I adore these barred rocks, my EE chicks are little fruit loops so far though, they freak out all the time and dump there feed every place ug...but they are very very pretty.
One of my dogs is the official chicken dog, I really hoped Piper would take to the chickens shes my herding dog, shes very very protective of them, I do not let her in with them unsupervised but she lays down and lets them eat her hair and crawl all over her.
I have to get a pic of that....
Heres hoping this rain lets up today. Take care all

Keyt, how did you tear the ligaments in your thumb?

Dont be too down- use your other hand. What is this talk of not coming to Chickenstock? It is much much more than purchasing new birds- it is putting all these names to faces, and meeting wonderful wonderful people...
great food- (OPA'S smoked chicken...yummmmmm) great conversations and great fun!!!

Well Hilbillyhen, you are really gonna be jealous to hear that I am down here taking care of baby triplets and a 2yr old..the human kind...all boys. My son met his wife while he was at grad school and didn't come back. Now I have to go pretty far to see the grandbabies. Skype just isn't the same.
Do you have family down here?

It's kind of difficult to tell from the pictures but it looks like 4 pullets

yup ,that what I was thinking..4 girls and 2 boys. I would have loved to trade a boy for a boy except we got ours from the same chickenman.

linda, my daddy was from the small town of Halifax NC and I still have an Uncle and a few cousins there. My mama was from SC and I still have an Aunt and cousins there. I ended up in MI because that is where my DH is from. Now I can be jealous because you have grandbabies too!! Oh wow, triplets!!!

I spent part of the afternoon out in my workshop building a new incubator and have gotten it almost complete. I just have to mount the fan and then connect all the wiring. It sure will be nice having a wooden incubator and no longer having to deal with the styrofoam.

I went out to gather eggs tonight and initially thought I had a dead Vorwerk hen. She was in a back corner and never moved when I touched her. Turns out she has decided to go broody. I had already removed one egg today from the nest and she was sitting on two more. I got three eggs from yesterday plus the three from today and placed her in a separate coop. She immediately left the nest box and went out into the run. I just checked on her a few minutes ago and she is back sitting on the eggs. Hopefully she stays.
