Keyt, I doubt that it is from hatching but actually pasty butt. Very common with new hatchlings. Use a spray bottle with warm water and mist the area. Wait a few minutes and blot with paper towel, don't pull it off as down will come with it. Repeat until bottom is clean. If not remove it will continue to build and get harder ultimately causing a serious problem.

Keyt I had one just like that. Opa's right, just take your time and don't pull it off...it's tempting but that chick will scream it's head off! I had one do that the last hatch I had...almost didn't notice it until I was trying to sex them...poor baby had quite a load on it's butt!

Glad to hear your hatch is going well.

I had the opportunity to meet Farmerboy16 on Sunday and he was happy to take my SLW cockerals off of my hands and I was glad to get some of his BA's. It was great to meet him and I look forward to seeing him again at Chickenstock.

Sadly, Elliot developed a nasty habit of flogging anyone and everyone so he was invited to take a swim in my sister's crockpot. So sorry

I actually cried when DH had to do the deed.

This is exactly what I've said for months. I have an opinion, but it seems I'm always wrong no matter what. Even if I say something as a joke I get jumped on. Just ask Cricket

Are you talking about the time when you said if you saw my husband that you'd stab him in the face?

all right silkie people...is there an "easy" way to tell pullets and cockerels apart as chicks? Like maybe a poofier head?

I've got some that are a couple months old and I'm clueless on what they are....
