KEYT1969, What kind of ducks are those and where are you at? I'm in Muskegon. Well today was a blast! I went to auction in Ravenna and was offered free kittens which I quickly turned down, lol. I did manage to score some blue hostas for Mrs. A. They had Call duck chicks (I saw somewhere someone was looking for them) but I missed the bidding - because - I was in the rabbit section and I came home with Black New Zealand buck! He's getting the royal treatment. Now I need to find a doe to complete the family. FYI, the big flea market at Burly Park is Monday near Howell. I usually go.

I just spent close to an hour catching up with posts - lots of chitchat. Floods are receding and for the first time in 4 days the Cochin trio can emerge from their island coop. The Wellies I hatched from Opa's eggs are doing fantastic, growing and feathering, and unfortunately beginning to flap and fly. Welsummers are very athletic - Kellogg the Wellie roo can soar over the fence with very little effort, and I found one of the Wellie hens sitting on top of the Cochin's coop the other day.

Keyt, those ducks are too cute!

If my DH was not anti-duck I would definitely want a couple, but he's unbudgeable and since I gave my ducks away as part of a deal for him to get us a new Prius, I can't possibly have any quackers.

I am really looking forward to the end of the school year, only 13.5 days left, then Chickenstock. Speckled Sussex and Delaware hatching eggs are on the short list.

It would be nice to hear how people who are growing out turkeys are doing, and is anyone planning on bringing turkeys to Chickenstock??

Just sent a brahma and EE/polish mix to freezer camp at my parents. The brahma I'm not so sad about, but the polish mix was a little sad for me.. Brittany was one of our first chickens, such a nice girl, but she wasn't laying anymore so I had to re-purpose her. I'm going to miss her, but now I have more room for new chickens. bittersweet.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Chicks everywhere! There's a few more out in the bator and lots more pipping and zipping....looks like lots of my friend's moms Polish and some of our showgirls and possibly some Speckled Sussex! The next hatch is Polish and Silkies but the hatch after that is Silkies and Speckleds...anyone interested these hatches are coming to Chicken stock.

I put up a sign EGGS FOR SALE in front of my house and then place a small refrigerator on the front porch with a sign that explains that while raising chickens is a hobby the cost of feed makes it expensive. That I can buy eggs from the grocery for less than 1/2 my cost but I feel that the improved taste and freshness makes it worthwhile. I gladly share this eggs with you please help share in the costs. Leave what ever you feel is a fair price in the donations box.

Tonight took the money from the locked donations box tonight and held $33 for 12 dozen eggs. That's $2.75 per dozen. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprized.

A2SciTeach, glad to read that your chicks are doing well. Lindah2226 called this morning quite excited. She had placed 12 of my Welsummer eggs under a broody hen. One egg was broken early in incubation and as of this morning 7 chicks had hatched and the hen was still sitting.

In a little over 3 weeks if you drive by my house the smell of chickens will be easily detectable. I know a lot of people are concerned that their birds might offend the neighbors. I have the reverse problem. How do I keep folks away when they smell them.
