Good morning and a blessed day to all who enter here. The DH and DD are suffering from allergy attack. Lots of klenex flying round here. Drinking my coffee and catching up on the thread. Great pictures of ducks and chicks and smoked birds.

The question of washing and not washing has long been discussed. Is it right or wrong? To each his/her own. I sell the cleanest and biggest and eat the rest myself. I have a plastic scrubbie in a ceramic rooster on the window sill that I use to brush of soiled eggs. If I do have a nasty I wash it and use it right away cause I can eat an egg anytime of the day they are a great healthy meal or snack. I know ladies that sell their eggs awwww naturale' with poop piles and all and have no trouble selling out regularly.

Wish chickenstock were closer to my home it sounds like a neat time.

Our poultry club for 4H is gearing up for the big Asparagus Festival parade. Our float theme will be asparagus and chickens in the barnyard with live animals! Weeee!

Well the coffee is gone from my cup (oh the horror) so I must go. Check ya all later.

I totally agree with not washing eggs. The people that buy them, usually, understand that "au-natural" is the norm. I like the sign someone posted about how they are not washed and why - good idea.

HennyPenny - So glad your little one came home. I love it when that happens!

Keyt - If Aric is serious about my old tractor PM me.

Had a nasty scare this morning.

I bought two Red Bourbon turkey poults from a Craigslister yesterday, not only to put under one of my broody hens, but also so my two month old Bronze can have some company. Set them under my Fiona (aka Evil Queen of the Coop) last night, and she let them snuggle up. Went out in the middle of the night to check on them, and the poults were gone. Looked all over and found them in the furthest nest box, huddled against the wall. Stupid hen.

I got them back in the house, but they were shivering like crazy, could barely move, and were deathly silent. I gave them sugar water well, technically Hummingbird nectar, and put them back in the brooder. I went to work with a heavy heart, expecting to come home to one, if not two dead babies.

Came home, and the first thing my father said is "That goofy turkey keeps jumping out of the brooder." I ran into the spare bedroom, and there they both were, playing around and peeping.

Tonight, I'm going to see if my other broody is more willing to play mommy. However, I'm bringing her in the house, so if she changes her mind, the poults won't be literally left out in the cold.

Anyone interested in giving a 3-4 yr old rooster a good home (no plates, please) - No particular reason for rehoming, simply have a couple of other roosters that we'd like to use for breeding. We've had him for 2 yrs this spring and have never had any aggressive behavior towards humans...btw, he's use to free ranging with his gals!

Well recycled double pane window, recycled storm door, recycled shop shelving for nest boxes, recycled dog kennel fencing, over the years I have picked up about 6 road side kennels, all 6 x 6's or bigger. Friend of mine stopped in today and asked if she could move into my coop....lol. Looking for some paneling for the outside then I will trim it out and paint everything John deer green with white trim to match the big barn.
Got alot done so far this weekend, just wishing the yard could dry up, need to find a home for 2 EE baby roosters still, or they are headed to freezer camp.
Everyone please have a good Memorial day, take a moment and say a prayer for the fallen. As a Army wife and the daughter of a Marine, sister of a Navy brother and a Army brother, sister in law to a Army Ranger ,the military is my family and my life my heart and my soul.
Thank god for them.
