Just came in and man it is still hot and muggy.

After supper I finished the weed eating and then decided that the two Russian Olive trees needed to come down. Got the chain saw out and cut them both down and then hauled off the limbs from one while I just ran out of steam. It hard to believe that at one time the US Forestry and Michigan DNR wanted us to plant them. I got mine along with some white pines from the county extension office. Now the things are everywhere and considered a nuisance. I know I hate the fact that branches are constantly dying and new branches weaving in making a thicket of dead wood and thorns. They do sure smell nice when they are blooming.

Keyt, oyster shell is not going to create problems with the egg shells. It's a good idea to always have it available. That isn't why the eggs are hard to break. It's the membrane beneath the shell. If you were to put your eggs in the refrigerator and leave them for 3 weeks they will be no harder to break than store bought eggs. The biggest factor in chicks or ducklings taking a long time to hatch is fluctuating temperatures and humidity. I don't care how fast you think you are or how little you open the incubator it does affect the hatching of the remaining eggs. Please just sit on your hands until they all hatch. You will have few problems, fewer delayed hatchings, and healthier hatchlings.

Electric company must've got my telepathic threats to get the power back on cause it came on today around 1pm!!

The cable company obviously let the telepathic call go to voicemail and didn't get it until about an hour ago

We're back up and running!
Got a lot done outside today including getting a little crispy myself.

Garden will have to go in later this week because we need to rototill it one more time and it's a bit wet...not much...today dried it up and it's at the top of the hill in our yard.
All the extra chicks I hatched out left today and now that we're down to 5 chicks from 40 it's much quieter in my house!

Next batch is due to start hatching on 06/10!...crossing my fingers that the power outage didn't affect them in a negative way.

Keyt, everyone is treating you very nicely. Why would you say you don't have any friends here on BYC? Wish I would have seen the posts you deleted. Makes me wonder what I missed.

Just wanted to post a huge Thank you to Opa, Tobin , missjenny, cruizer1, sillychicken, woodmort, suzieq53511, Hbuehler and many more who have been a tremendous help to me. I gave my chickens to my nice neighbors down the street and my son will get my coop...after I clean it out of course. I look back there constantly , still seeing the chickens walking around but they are not there.

After much thought, there was only one thing I could do. I am so sad, but I just could not do it alone and listen to constant squabbling about the cost and time I was wasting. I did, I did, I gave in. I have a hubby that has never supported anything that I try to do.

My Burton died, The chickens started to peck on her again... I went to get them for the neighbor and she was dead under the nests... she was trying to hide again.

It didn't help that they were also eating the eggs, I was gettting only a few a day... this didn't help either. I told my hubby that I needed a fence but he said he wasn't going to spend another penny on the chickens.
Again I would like to thank everyone who helped me... I truely enjoyed all the fun on Backyard chickens... I loved looking at all the different coops and pictures, stories and recipes... You never know I just might be back one day.... Minus one Big rooster...
