Michigan

Somehow I got like 4 pages behind in this thread...and it sounds like 2 or 3 newbies are moving from warm Ca. to da U.P. !! Spunky!! We moved from Florida to North Lower Mi. and it has been an adjustment...even though I was born and raised in south Mi. Michigan is a beautiful state and I'm happy to be relocated here .....as far as prices....we found that most things were about the same as in Florida. We saved on auto insurance because we live in the boonies. Property tax is cheaper here and we pay for our 20 acres about what we paid for a LOT in Florida.
I have heard a rumor that governor Snyder is taking away homestead exemption and upping property tax by 30%. Does anyone follow Michigan issues and know if that rumor is false??? I'm figuring it must be...or our state will end up nothing but vacant land with no one remaining here.
It is pouring out here and we have friends getting married OUTSIDE and the reception is OUTSIDE at the local park. Sure hope it stops raining soon.

Chickmate...I'm glad you discovered the chicken killer was a fox and not local dogs. At least you know the culprit.

Just googled it, and if it is more than a rumor, it hasn't
hit the hews yet.

This is impossible for the guv to revoke it, it would
take the House and Senate to do it.

Very doubtful, I hope.

Love the snowblower on my tractor, 5' wide. It can throw frozen horse road apples a looong way. Last winter I started using a snowmobile helmet (no cab on the tractor) and boy did that make life easier!

Hubby says he thinks he pays $68 for my 2005 Dodge Caravan.

I paid $68 for my corrolla (plus the $10 state park add on)

Good morning folks! The rain has been good, this growing season has outdone the last few hands down! I'm going to be canning & freezing a ton of pie cherries this year as well as apples, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries. Now if I can find a good wine recipe for my grapes I'll be all set. The garden is going crazy! I'll def freeze enough corn, usually I can get through till the following year and still give some away. Meaties are HUGE! I'm holding out for 10-12 weeks old, can you say 14 pound chicken! Have not lost one yet.
Fife: The mantis working out? Mom and Dad have had one for 20 or so years and it still works good I guess. My rear tine suits my larger plot better. My neighbor has a PTO 10 foot jobber that he mounts behind the Farmall. That sucker will do a plot quick time! Time to start looking for some day old Plymouth Rock pullets.

Bigger is definitely better when it comes to snowblowers. Two years ago I spent $1200 on a two stage 30" self propelled snowblower with power steering, heated hand grips, and a cab enclosure. I think it's the best snow shovel an old man can use.

Riverdale....that property tax is going to hurt....not much we can do about it at this point I guess.

Uchytil...the mantis worked great...I need to go through the garden again with it but the rain and wet soil is preventing me. We have a BIG tiller for our use when we first til up the garden for planting. I wanted a light one for weeding...that I could start and Mantis now has a new "fast start" model that has a shorter start cord. Works great and started right up for me. Always nice when I go do something on my own and not have to ask DH for help.
Got a chuckle out of all the various replies to meaning of DH. I think dorkhead was a favorite.

My husband ISN'T a dork head but there are many times when he can be a SM. That is my lingo for "stubborn man"!

Just reread Riverdale's googling of Snyder tax plan....I thought you said it WAS more of a rumour and feel better that after rereading what you wrote...said nothing in the news.
