I read that contaminated food can cause a similar problem. Let us know what you fine out and good luck.

Yeah, I have switched brands because I just didn't think the young ones were thriving on the stuff from one of the feed places here. We are back to Kalmbach which I have used in the past. I plan on continuing nutridrench daily and yogurt to boost the little guy. My DD pointed out we are using a metal feeder in their run. I didn't think there were sharp edges but he could have very well got his beak caught and injured himself pulling away.

Could it be from a fight? We had 3 BR roos that used to fight all the time (we found a good home for them) and one of them had a missing part of his beak from one of the fights. I also used to have d'anvers too and they would pick on hens and roos no matter what their size and had a few injuries. I re-homed them to a lady who loved them so much she gave me a couple of her ducks.

I wondered about the fighting thing. They are in a tractor during the day and the big girls have been checking them out. Fighting through the fence is a possibility. I sure hope he gets his beak back. I filed down the bottom one tonight to help him pick up food. He has been scooping at his food alot. I switched feeders and waterer to a deep style pan to aid in the that area. I guess time will be my only way of knowing if it is permanent.

Thanks for your help ladies.

Good luck! He'll adjust fine. Almost all of my ducks and a good portion of my chickens are rescues. Many of them have beak issues, most due to being born that way. One of my ducks has a totally twisted beak but she eats more than anyone else. I use troughs made out of old gutters. Sunny (the duck with the twisted beak) will only eat out of that I think because the sides are closer together and easier to scoop out of. Now that she's older though she's learned to use her tongue to pick up too.

DaughterofEve- Let us know if it grows back. I sure hope it does. When they debeak chickens on factory farms, do those grow back, anyone?

Keyt- That runner is up and walking a bit now. I keep him penned up still because I don't want him to overdo it. The leg is stiff and moves awkwardly, but it's enough for him to sort of hobble around. I think in another week or two he'll be moving better. We're so relieved.

Jen- That is one of the most beautiful rabbits I've seen. He's gorgeous. I also like your lops. While we have Hollands here, if we ever switch out, or expand, I'd like to talk English Lops with you.

I went to the zoo today. It was hot. I think that about sums up my experience

I much prefer it in the winter.

Did major chicken reorganizing today, a chicken friend took 10 of my extras and most of the remaining chicks are now in outdoor pens (excepting the 17 1-week old delawares, the 3 new hatched bantam cochins, and the eggs still in the incubator - all in my spare bedroom still but headed soon for the garage). It is so much less work now, I almost can remember why I wanted chickens in the first place

Cant wait for chickenstock! Raz I would love 2# of honey.
Thanks again Jen, your hare is lovely.

Well, we're pretty sure we won't be making it to chickenstock. I'm devastated!!

Then to top it off, it looks like I'll have to sell my favorite toy...

Last year a friend of mine msg'd me on facebook asking me if I wanted it. I was shocked because when he lived in MI, he LOVED this car. He had done a lot of work to it and took it with him when they moved to Missouri. But due to cuts at work, they had to move to a smaller place and they couldn't have 3 cars there. He said he would give it to me, but I had to go get it. OH BOY! So Aric, my daughter and I took a train (that was fun!) to Missouri and spent a few days at Ed's, then drove the car back. It had sat a while at Ed's but it was drivable. Aric did some more work to it (he's awesome when it comes to work on vehicles too!) and I drove it all last summer. Well, because I didn't want to drive it in the snow, I put it up in the driveway at the other house. I would start it now and then and drive it up the road. When I parked it I knew it would need new struts. Then the plates expired on my birthday in April. Today we got it out to clean it and when I started it it smoked like a chimney. UGH. I just won't ever have the money to get it in working order. Not while on SSI and being the only one in the household to pay bills. At least we don't have a mortgage but still. I'm so sad!

Good news of the day? The neighbor across the street was having a garage sale and I got a Black and Decker coffee maker for $3!! LOL
