RIRJen...what a cute idea...the traveling chicken!! Cute pictures!

Snowflake...thank you for your input...I have 3 chicks now hatched under mama...I think two more eggs left. I wasn't sure when I'd let them range with mom or even if I would...but since you said you have done it before...I will try it too. I'll wait a week at least.

Keyt...happy for your!

Opa...glad you have your fishing style "going on"!!

Being an old rooster many times people will call upon my wellspring of knowledge accumated by living as long as I have. Recently I was asked to assist in identifying the breed of a beautifully colored rooster own by a fellow Michigan BYCer. Needing to reduce the number of roosters they have, they intend to place this one on Craigslist and thought that listing the breed would encourage someone to take him. After much deep thought, head scratching, and research through every book on chickens that I have I was able to determine that it was a Melange. This got me wondering how many others also have the same kind.

(hi to granny by the way)

Jen my very favorite bird is a speckled sussex pullet I hatched out this spring, she is so sweet.the boys were just a friendly, but can't be kept unfortunately.

So, i have very egg-citing news. My niece brought her four young children over today, and as I was giving them a tour of the coop, I lifted the lid on the nest boxes and I'll be darned if there was not a small, brown cackleberry. My girls just turned 15 weeks , and I think I had lost sight of what the end goal was here, since I so enjoy my chickens. I know this is old hat to most of you, but I am going to get eggs out of my own backyard! How awesome is that?

Totally awesome!! My young girls are now randomly squatting.... so anytime now irandomly will beg overrun with eggs! I love going out to the coop to find what goodies my girls left me. 4 eggs for me today!

one of my pullets layed yesterday, it wasnt a complete egg, missing part of its shell, but hey...Im totally excited! I gave her some sunflower seeds to say "thank you", she pooped on my foot to say "your welcome"...we have a great relationship
