They've been saying that for 4 years. I used to work at the post office on Collins Rd and still maintain some friends there. They're told every few months their jobs or delivery days or routes will change. 2 yrs ago they were talking about stopping delivery on saturdays and closing all but main post offices. Last year they talked about taking away all the postal jeeps. Nothing has changed here, although in other surrounding cities some post offices have been combined and I know a couple of people who don't get their mail delivered til around 7pm.

This heat is a tough one!

Speaking of which, I have a question about one of my BR hens. No idea how old she is, she came along with a couple of other hens someone asked us to take last year. She's been laying just fine and still is. However, this past spring the BR roos I had wouldn't leave her alone (I don't have them anymore) and she ended up with a completely bare back. I put her in with the ducks and it looked like her feathers were growing back like the other hens those roos kept going after. Unfortunately the feathers only grew to a point so now she just as a few pin feathers and the rest is all bare and has been for a while.

I've put children's sunblock on her figuring if sunblock wasn't good for her, at least children's would be milder. Anything else I can do? Would one of those saddles work? I know if I have a sunburn I don't like anything touching it so I don't know if that would make her feel worse. I feel so bad for her but she doesn't seem bothered by it. The last couple of days she's been spending more time outside because it's too hot in the duck coop and it looks like her skin where her wing meets her body is starting to bubble so I put her back on the chicken's side. I figured if she wanted to go inside she might like it better in there and there's no roosters that will bother her. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

(Copied from my friend Wendy) I was going to complain about how hot it is... then I realized that at least: 1.) it isn't 109 degrees; 2.) I'm not 5,700 miles from home; 3.) I'm not dressed in a full ACUs uniform and helmet and carrying 70+ lbs.; and 4.) there is very little chance that anyone will shoot at me or that I might drive over a bomb in the road today! Thank you to those who have & are serving!!!

I brought my hen in this afternoon also. She was trying to get into a dangerously hot coop to lay her egg. I put her in her crate that she was in as a baby and she feels right at home. She feels comfortable enough to lay her egg and take a nap in there! I think it is a great idea to have a spot where you can bring them in if they are ill or needing some kind of re 'coop'eration.

I worked from 7 til noon and was completed exhausted when I quit. My clothes were soaked thru with perspiration and my pants looked as if I hadn't been potty trained. While I could grumble and complain, RaZ's post reminds me that my first sentence tells it all, I quit. It became too hot, too uncomfortable so I quit. Our soldiers don't have that option and they are dealing with much more severe conditions than we are. Everyone take a moment and pray for them.

Anyone here know of any breeders in MI who have D'uccles or Sultans?
I don't want to order from a hatchery if I don't have to!
Thanks for any info in advance.

I went to South Carolina last week and on the way back I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with BYCer's Cetawin and Braclin. They are just as wonderful in person as they are here.

thanks for sharing, nice looking group.
Im glad I got that apron from you as I know I have 2 roos in the bunch now.
I got all mine put away for the night, left the Chante's out as they've been liking to roost on those old chain link fence pieces and it's lots cooler out in the breeze for them. The rocks and reds always put themselves in and up on the roost, so I close and lock their gate. Good night everyone and God Bless.
