I have a greenhouse that I use! I got it at home depot and they should be on sale now! It is vinyl and I hang a heat lamp from the top of it. The snow melts and the hens enjoy the grass and dirt in the dead of winter! It is about 8X10 ft

So sorry to hear that. You go ahead and cry for her. Sad tears today are for your profound loss. Happy tears later will be for your time together. The happy tears will outweigh the sad tears.

Just a suggestion for your roost, rather than a branch use a 2x4 on the flat. The birds can stand on it and in the winter they have a much easier time of lowering over their feet. With a perch they must grasp they are constantly jostling for position and can't expand their feathers nor lower their body as readily.

I am so glad to see 2X4's recommended for the perching. They hens are much more comfortable when they can rest their chest over their feet. Maybe that will keep them out of the nest boxes at night, if the perches are wide enough to lie on and high enough so they feel safer.

Go to Homedepot.com and type 'greenhouse' into the search engine. Then look at the vinyl 'flower houses'. There is one for $169.00 and one for $199.00
Think I got mine on sale a couple years ago and I have used it most days in the winter. It has an open bottom, is light to move around too.
I set it in one location and use it there for a while. Then when we get a melt, I move it to a fresh spot of grass. When the snow hits again, it keeps that one spot open for the hens. I can hang a heat lamp from the top with an extension cord and the hens can be in it for a couple hours. It is good to give them some sunlight and it also lets them dustbathe.
I get a full spectrum light from Lowes called 'REVEAL' and put that in the coop also. Hope that helps!

Here are a few pictures of the chickens in question...The first is my baby doll, Wanda, we have no idea what she is, then there are the pics of the white (roo?) and then our gorgeous Phoenix and one of the buff hen with fluffy cheeks (athough you cant tell so well that she has fluffy cheeks in any of the pictures I took) and there is one of my broody momma who just hatched two little chickaroos out, I love the pictures of her with the heads popping out of her fluff. :) makes my heart happy!! but it makes my hand sore when I try to clean out the brooder or give them water..lol
