Yes, I found one and gave it to the chickens but it looks like all the tops of my tomatoes have been munched clear off. Even on the topsy turvies across the yard. I didn't find any tomato worms on them.

hi everyone another michigander here! i had no idea so many people in michicgan had chickens and whent on this website! we live in lapeer county, ive had my ten lovely ladies a little over a year now and all are doing well however i guess here would be a good place to mention that we are looking for a nice rooster to add to the flock about the same age as our girls, a nice roo too and also my mom likes bard rocks (sorry if i spelled it wrong) so if you have any roos like this and you live near by please tell me!

Welcome to BYC. There are great people here.

I have a nice Barred Rock roo I need to rehome in about a month. He's 9 weeks now and I need to keep him a while longer until I can integrate him and his booder-mate, an EE pullet, with my existing flock. He's a cute funny guy and lets me pick him up and pet him, though you never know how they will be when grown. I'm in West Michigan but if you are interested, I'd be willing to meet you half way to make sure he goes to a good home with hens to tend to and not end up in someone's crock pot. If you are still looking for a roo come September, keep me in mind.

i fed my chickens some of those nasty tomato worms cause they were destroying my 5' tomato plants and chickens wouldnt touch them. Coworker said they dont typically eat them cause they are sour tasting...I didnt dare ask how he knew that...

HAHA....I found a big fat one and the girls played keep-away for about 10 minutes until it finally got divided up and gobbled down. They were all about the tomato worm.

Actually, I like seeing the tomato horn worms. They don't eat much more than a few leaves, they never eat the fruit and they turn into a pretty hummingbird moth (Hemaris thysbe). One of the sphinx moths, they are preyed upon by all kinds of critters so I like to give them a break. As adults, they help with pollination.

Welcome Rhoderer!

I have jersey giant roos (11 wks) and English Orpington splash roo (14 wks.) available. I live in Kalkaska county.

We still have our company here visiting from Fla.....keeping busy and enjoying the late summer....especially since it cooled off some!
