By no longer using chemicals, I'm seeing a return of insects to my yard. Like the dragonflies that eat the mosquitos.

Hello all.... I am brand new to chickens, and this website has been outstanding in answering many questions I have. I am in Holly, which is located half way between Flint and Pontiac. I have a problem and that is finding a GOOD home for a bird who I believe has turned out to be a rooster. She/he is a 9 week old Silver Laced Wyandotte, and is a beautiful bird, inqusitive, friendly, easy to hold and just a joy to have in my small flock of 4 birds. I am posting a photo here. PLEASE does anyone know of, or could anyone here take on a loveable rooster and give him a good, warm, dry and loving home . Free of course. Thank you in advance.

Oh, I wish I could take him. I am in Holland, and I'd love to have a Wyandotte roo for my girls. I have 2 gold laced and one silver. And he is the right age to fit in with my girls. But then I'd have 17 chickens, and 6 would be roos!

The first time I ever saw the hummingbird moth was last year. My hsuband and I were waiting for our evening visit from the hummingbirds- and this moth had us fooled for a very long time...
incredible. I did not know that they came from the horned tomato worms!

BTW, what do ya'll see as my avatar? Tried to change it to a head shot of my black araucana Abe, but I am still seeing my old avatar of the cuckoo girl sitting in my palm.

Wow....is that what yours look like? The ones that I've seen here are ugly and all brown. My neighbor hit one with his sprinkler and brought it over for the girls to feast on last week. Plus, I've had one get caught up in my curly hair and it was really horrifying trying to get it out. I am not a fan....at all.

Update on my tomato plants - hornworms were it. I am not sure how I missed them yesterday but there was like 3 on one of my plants today and 2 on another. They ate all my little baby tomatos on my one plants

.... oh well. I will have to check them everyday to make sure I got them all.

to all the new members out there! Glad to see so many new people join us!!

Well, the new chickens we got last night are settling in...sort of. One hen got loose, but that led us to finally fixing the roof on the duck coop so they can't get up there! The EE roo we got last night is looking like he can't stay

. We already still have to build a run for Gandalf and we'd have to build a run and an enclosure for the EE roo. I'm so sad because he's gorgeous!!! But Aric isn't finding any work anymore so we need to cut back on finances til either he gets more handyman work or my daughter or I can get something. Aric put 5 bids out and only one called him back. The others said he wanted too much HAHA. We know for a fact the bid he put out for drywalling, the lady ended up calling a "pro" (whatever) and paid 2.5 times as much! Aric always bids below his worth just to get work! My daughter got a response to her child care ad on craigslist, but it turns out it's just for one day on the weekends. GRRRR.

SO, if anyone would like a very gorgeous EE roo, he's up for grabs. We're still looking for more pullets too, but that may have to wait. Unless someone here is looking for a very good handman who can do anything from drywall to working on cars let me know! Then maybe we can keep this great roo
