I understand........ we have found some very..... interesting (had no idea mushroom could grow out of the ceiling)....... houses in our search. We put a offer on a house on Tues..... now we wait for the counter offer.
I end up with a 1 hour 15 min drive to work with this house. Brent has a 18 minute drive. But since being on call at a hospital you have 30 mins to get there & be punched in, and people who need emergancy surgeries can't wait too long sometimes- I get the long drive. Luckily there are no emergancy grooms............

There were three of these on one of my tomato plants and they have eaten about a quarter of the plant before I found them.

If I am not mistaken those are Tobacco Hornworm, they are why my husband picks the tomatos..

The Tobacco and Tomato Hornworms are similar. Genereally the Tobacco worm is in the southern states while the Tomato worm is in the northern states. Both attack the same family of plant - Solanceae, which includes Tomato, Tobacco, Moon plants and more. Picking them off and feeding to my chickens is what I do. The moth population is strong here, as are Butterflies ( I prefer not to weed out my Milkweed plants in the garden but rather leave them for the Butterflies). Picking the green buggers off seems "gross" but I guess it's no different than digging wigglers!

Wow welcome to all the new faces on the Michigan thread - this thing moves at the speed of light sometimes.

Opa hope you are feeling better

Chickaboom so happy your hen came home!

Jen love your hares ....

Did a major chicken reshuffle yesterday, sent off 8 of my 10 layers to a new home, cleaned the chicken house from top to bottom (Opa wish I had a leaf blower) and moved all the young layers into the henhouse. 3 separate batches: 2 adult hens that I kept (love those 2) and 3 point of lay silver Ams, 5 welsummers and a speckled sussex from my young bird pen, and 4 Delawares that are about 3 weeks younger then them. Just for fun I added 5 young bantam lavender Ameracaunas that were in the banty pen too, one the only roo in with the big girls - he is soooo happy!

My plan is to leave them all in there for a few days before I let them out, there has been some jostling and chest bumping but no serious scuffles. I am hoping that with so many different birds they will have trouble deciding who to pick on, and leave each other alone. No one seems too upset, but one of the silver ams is a little bit of a bully. We'll see I guess.

You will be disgusted by how much they eat and how big they really get before they go into a cocoon. If you want to see them you have to put them in a tank with dirt because they burrow in when they go into the cocoon.

Listen, people. I know it feels like fall out there but we really must stop saying things like "it's the end of summer". It's not the end of summer. No, no, no! Because do you know what comes after summer? Fall. Which isn't so bad in and of itself, but do you know what fall leads us into? WINTER! And winter makes me:

What hospital do you work at? It's frustrating and exciting at the same time looking for a new home for your family. Good Luck to you both in finding your dream home.
