Cody Wyoming is a great town to visit. The Cody museum is actually three museums. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center, the Draper Museum of Natural History, and the Cody Fire Arms Museum. Definately a great place to visit. North of town going towards Yellowstone is "Old History Trail Town" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Trail_Town Small but it is a must see exhibit.

I just made a note of it Opa...thanks. DH and I used to do pre 1840 rendezvous in Florida. He has the whole "mountain man" garb and has always wanted to tour those museums so I think it is great we are able to do it now. We both love historical places! (hated history as a high school student...guess I am a late bloomer

Hope you have a great time Fife, and I pray everything goes welll at home with your chickens and stuff.
I hated history too, but guess who picked up the genealogy bug from her dad and now has all his notebooks lining an office shelf, as well as her own?? yours truely.
I got a bu tternut cooked, some will be for supper, some for the freezer, a meatloaf is going also. SPent most my day in the kitchen. Once I get my little corner clean, I like to stay in there and enjoy it.

WHAT IS THIS???

I was cleaning the coop today, getting the last 2 days of roost poop out, and there are little black bug, pretty fast moving, not jumping or flying, but just running all over the poo. I was looking thru the pine shavings to see if its all thru the pine, and nope, just around to poo spots... What is it? It doesn't look like lice or mites...

Also, the sevin that you use to kill bugs in the lawn, can I use that in the coop? Or is it dangerous for the birds? I don't like bugs... LOL. But I don't want to hurt my birds... It says on the bag that it should be watered after it goes on the lawn so it will soak in the ground. Or is it something different that I should be using? I have been trying to keep it as organic as possible, but, I DONT LIKE BUGS!

Back. LOL
I was having computer problems. Sorry to hear about the duccle, keyt.

No disrespect intended, but why do so many people want to turn to chemicals at the first sign of a bug? Most of the insects in the lawn cause no harm whatsoever and many are actually beneficial to the ecosystem. When you use pesticides, it kills more of the beneficial insects than the harmful ones.

I can appreciate your dislike of bugs, but they are part of the life-cycle. And my chickens seem to find many of them quite tasty.

Without a picture identification is pretty much impossible "little, black, crawly and attracted to poop" doesn't exactly narrow down many of the usual suspects in the bug world.

You can use Sevin in your coop if you want to; it won't hurt your birds. But I do agree with Raz in that there's no real reason to automatically jump to chemicals just because you've seen some bugs. Bugs serve many purposes in the ecosystem, especially one that contains other animals. If you're going to own livestock bugs are simply something you probably need to get used to having around. If you really can't bring yourself to live peacefully with the bugs however, you might consider DE instead of Sevin, at least it's not a harsh chemical. Be warned however, that even it can be detrimental to the good guys as well as the bad ones.
