Just curious....what's your selling price and how'd you decide on the price? Brown eggs are pretty pricey in the grocery store. Someone told me to price mine (when I decide to start selling) slightly below store price.

Yeah I was in Kroger the other day and they had Medium eggs for 2.49/doz. Brown.
Then someone told me a guy on M-15 (4 miles from me) was selling brown eggs at $3/doz. I want them to GO, not set her in the fr idge. I only have 6 layers right now, but when they all get to POL, I'll have 13 of them, by end of November if all goes well.

I hope the guy on M15 didn't buy mine to resell

, I'll have to stop by there and see who's running the place.

I want to try to get some regular customers (friends, family & clients of mine). I want to keep it on a small scale, keep it fun and I'll deliver them if I have to like my grandfather did. Right now I have 11 hens and one Roo. Not smart thinking on my part when it comes to making a dozen....guess that's what happens when you're kinda green at this yet. Anyway, when I do decide to sell I want mine to go also so I was thinking go below store price. The guy on M15, is he north or south of Munger Rd.? I don't live too far from Munger...in Portsmouth Township and haven't seen anyone selling. I'm assuming he's south of me. Munger is a small community and I'm sure your eggs will go once people in the area know you have them.

I hope Hope is doing ok! Did she get stitches? My son, when he was 8, cut off a couple of his fingers below the nail bed, in the spocket of his brand new bike. Luckily they were able to reattach them. Give Hope

from me.

Boy, do I understand wanting to download the eggs! I started with a handful of my 28 laying and am up to 21 of them laying a day. I am drowning in eggs. I have been selling them to my co-workers, giving away to family, eating them, giving a daily duo to my dog, and once a week our 2 pigs get about 3 dozen mixed in with their feed, and I still have an average of 6-8 dozen in my fridge every day.

Your dogs must have the prettiest shiny coats there are! lol Why don't you see if there is a small private run restaurant in your area that you could supply? Might be worth looking into.

You all can price your eggs anyway you want, but if you price your eggs below what it costs to produce them I do reserve the right to come to your house, take you by the shoulders and shake some common sense into you. Which is preferable to beating it into you, which is what I would really want to do.

Helpful Hint: if you have a small backyard flock you are not producing eggs cheaper than the store. I guarantee it.

Oh don't worry you won't have to do that that to me. I was figuring that all into the price!!

Mind sharing your numbers?

Not at all because I haven't really made my mind up. I was thinking around $2.50. The eggs I saw in the store where priced almost @ $3. and were large. Plus just from talking to people who have purchased brown eggs from time to time in the past said they'd pay 2.50 just knowing the facts...where they came from, how they were fed & cared for, etc... DO you sell yours or are they for your own use?

I meant the numbers for your production costs. You said you'd considered all that and come out below store price. I'm curious what your numbers for the conclusion are. What flock size, breeds, average egg production per hen over her life, what line items did you use in the calculation, the final math, etc? If you don't mind.

Yes, I sell eggs, both by the dozen and as a component of our CSA shares.

Everything you could want to know except how much it costs to get in, which I'd like to know.

My daughter lives about 8 minutes from the Expo Center and it might be fun to go.

Cost to walk into the building and spend the day looking around: zero. We would appreciate it if maybe you bought a hot dog or raffle ticket while you were there.

I just raised my price to 2.00. It is not about profits for me though, I just hate to see any go to waste and ask friends and family to help defray some of my cost. I costed it out once and I would have to charge around 6.00 dollars a dozen. It is more than feed. Costing includes feed, medicine, vitamins, electricity, bedding, labor, gas to the feed store and my internet connection so I can come on BYC and learn what I need to know. Then there is the cost of the coop, run, fence and maintenance on these structures that will not last forever and don't forget the waterer that rusted out and needs replacing ...etc. etc. etc. Maybe I should charge $10. lol
