BobBry,

The water sprouts should be taken out, you want good air circulation throughout the branches. 6 - 8 feet tall are pretty established so you will have quite a bit of cutting to be done, but don't take more than 1/3 of the total branches (you might have to leave some for now). Wait until mid-winter before doing any cutting, the January thaw or a warm February day is good.

Also, fruit trees need treatment a few times a year, sprays before bud-break, around flowering time and again later. I'm going to have to go to the books for exact details (old-timers disease is flaring up) of what get sprayed and when. They need a good bit of help to get good yields.

The maintenence and use of sprays are reasons that I cut down my fruit trees. But the fruit tree wood was wonderful in the smoker.

I'll dig up what I can here at home if I can find by books and manuals and I'm not too disttracted by the Lions.

Mom 2 em... Sorry to hear that this is going to happen. I just took in my friends silkie roos, because that's what just happened to her too. She's going to try and keep her ducks as they are house broke (what the??) and will use a large little box/pan.... But the roos she know's she can't. They are beautiful guys... I hope you can find a pet home for them... Hide the chickens good... Totally sucks.

Congrats on your daughters marriage.

I need tums.

I have to go to work.

I wanna go back to bed.

I feel like a whiny 5 yr old, and I know what they sound like, I have one.

I'm still trying to figure out all these two letter terms. I mean, I have a generalization for em, but don't know the full terms..

DH? Designated Hitter? Baha

No need to research my problems with the fruit. I've done that for years. Guess my real prob. is that I just don't want to do all the spraying suggested by the state ag dept. or MSU. Just thought u might haqve a good handle on rejuvinating f trees from what u wrote to (Sam). U sure right about the fine flavor of the wood for SMOKING STUFF.

If it's ok w/ u I/ll see if I can send some fotos of the tree in question to u for your apprisal & comments.

Lions doing well currently 20-3 or close to that.

Thanks, b ob

BobBry,

E-mail your photos to me at [email protected].
I'll see what I can do to help.

Also, if you are willing, can you help with my project? It's a GIS study of where chickens are located in M ichigan and whether they are permitted or not.

Thanks.

A little gentle nagging, folks, and the reason I am doing this...

As part of my master's programme work, I'm conducting a survey of where people are that have poultry. I'm trying to use GIS to create an overview of chicken owners and build a database of local ordinances that may prohibit having chickens in your yard.

My professor likes this because it can be used on a number of levels. For example, socially, how many people are returning to providing their own food (i.e gardens; eggs, etc.). Legally, how often local laws usurp citizens' rights. Environmentally, are pests or diseases trending in some areas. If we had been doing something like this a few years ago, the Emerald Ash Borer could have been identified before it devestated our ash tree population. Most recently, the Imprelis problem was quickly identified and the EPA took steps to prevent more damage to the landscape, based on reports from home-owners and landscapres.

My goal (besides a good grade) is to get an idea of where we are keeping our flocks and if we are likely to worry about outside factors in keeping our flocks.

All responses are confidential. No details of chicken owners will be divuldged. I'd be cutting my own throat if I did. My flock is contrary to city ordinance, which is why I don't post my real name or city that I live in. If you could help, I would certainly appreciate it.

Please e-mail me at [email protected] with the following:

City/Township
County
Legal, Limited flock size or illegal

For example:
Ann Arbor
Washtenaw
Limited -- 3 hens, no roosters.

Me:
City
Wayne County
Illegal - Don't pass Go, go directly to jail...

Help if you can, I certainly appreicate it. If you can't or don't want to, that's OK with me.

Thank you.

yep, me as well...Wayne County- dont try to own geese, do not pass go, risk fines and seizure....

All my chickens are hidden by vinery (maybe not a word, but I will make it up) and shrubs and etc...but my goosers have free run of my backyard and are excellent watch-birds...in fact, they spied the inspector guy behind the house in the yard behind mine and told him HEY YOU!! YA YOU! WE SEE YOU!!!
