Anybody here fancy themselves chicken color experts? I'm wondering if a Light Brahma/Black Australorp Cross would create Black Sex Link chicks? I have a Aus/LB hen that hatched out this spring. I didn't pay much attention to the chicks coloring when they were young but this hen has got the gold feathers in her hackles like a BSL so now I'm wondering if the coloring is sex-linked as chicks, too?

*** What do you guys do to get rid of fruit flys? I've put out a bowl of vinergar with sran wrap covering it & poked holes throught it. They're suppose to be attracted to it, fall in, the saran is suppose to trap them & they're suppose to drown. NOT WORKING!! Any ideas would be appreached because the handleful I got is driving me nuts!!!

The way I've done it is to use apple cider vinegar and a tiny bit of dish soap. The soap reduces the surface tension of the vinegar and makes them drown faster. I've also used Hot Shot No Pest Strips. I got them at WalMart and Home Depot.​

Hello All, I have three young (5-6 months) naked neck roos. I have a place to take them but thought I would offer them up to the Michigan chicken peeps first. All three are handsome but one is exceptionally handsome. He is blue with a little lemon on his wings, his saddle feathers are a shiny silver. Let me know if you're interested. Free for the fine Michigan chicken folks.

I tried something the like & breed in (blackberries) in a jar, (peanutbutter) with no lid. They enter, collect I waited till concentration was dense, poped the lid on & shookem up till inactive. .. .. .. then started again.. till NO M ORE FRUIT FLIES. Worked for me. Course theycome back if fruit is left out to attract em . : /​

 

[Opa]

The most effective fruit fly trap I've ever used has been a glass with a paper cone that reaches almost to the bottom. The tip of the cone is cut to provide a 1/4" opening that is about 1/2" from the bottom. Add a small amount of apple cider vinegar in the bottom of the glass. The flies enter but are unable to find the opening to get back out. Their life cycle is so short that they will die before they can exit. I would not add soap as most is scented and not particularily attractive to the flies.

I can't wait to be on vacation :: looks longingly at the calendar :: I get to see my dad! (I haven't seen him in months) Sooo excited.

I am going to stockpile eggs to give to him. I almost wish we had fresh turkeys to bring down with us. Maybe next year.
