All 3 BSL's are doing the squat dance and practicing their egg songs. Not only that, they all follow me like I'm the Pied-Piper.

Well all of my older flock are mad at me right now. I have been having an issue with mites in the coop, although I am rarely finding any on the chickens. The problem is coming from the fact they like to roost in the eaves which are a pain to clean out so it doesn't get done like it should. So today I cleaned the eaves out. Put down a thick layer of DE and then blocked them off, not entirely so there is still ventilation but so they can't get in. This evening everyone was mad. Only about 5 birds out of 23 chickens and 6 guineas were in their usual roosting spots (the ones who take to the rafters). Everyone else was forced to find a new spot or had been shoved out of their spot by someone else. It is not a peaceful coop tonight, hopefully everyone will settle in better tomorrow.

Welcome back Sam!

I am in the process of intergrating the "boys" into the flock. Today was their first day in the run with the girls. They were crated however to protect them. I plan on doing this all week and hope to intergrate them completely this weekend. I need the brooder area in the coop for Blueberry and her chicks. If anyone is interested in one of the Marans boys, let me know. They are free to any BYCer. I have no idea what their final coloring will be as they are still really young but I am pretty sure they are both boys (no crowing yet). Only one has feathered legs, the other is clean.

If interested or have questions, please PM me. I have a farm I could drop them off at but I would love if a BYCer wanted them. They hatched from pretty dark brown eggs and I have a picture of them too. Just let me know.

Believe it or not, I did try to offer them to a few asian friends of mine, but they didn't want them either! If some one else want to eat them thats fine. My 5 yr old says no. SO, I just can't eat them. He know's that we might be making dinner out of Oscar at some point in time, he's a black cochin, but he say we CAN NOT EAT HIS SILKIES, but he's ok with me rehoming some of the roosters. He understands that part.

I do have pics to upload... NOW I just have to find the missing cable. I love love love my little thieving boys. I bet its in the toy room being used as a rope or something...

Wouldn't front line ruin eggs? I mean, its poison in the blood system... I'd say go to Cedarcide website and see what they might have. I have not had a problem with mites. My neighbor says that they do in the one coop but not the other and are surprised I don't. BUT I will keep fingers crossed that I won't.

Well this could be interesting....... the property we were trying to get behind us, has been sold to some old guy. We met him Saturday...... Luckily he is into self sufficency, wants chickens etc himself so no worries there...... but........ well he made sure he told us that he's been a Native American in 5 past lives and knows what every grass, tree and stick can be used for in nature.

I asked my DH what he did wrong then to end up as an austrian in europe, must have been a bad indian to end up there!

LOL! Anyway, this could be intertesting.
