Welcome Erinlee:)
Sorry to hear of your chicken losses to predators. I think it is almost impossible to raise chickens for years without something getting at least one of our babies.

My husband says my coops are secured like Fort Knox these days....

I am so sorry about your chickens...

I had the scare of a life time this morning. I looked out the back window and the run door was open! I had totally forgot to close it last night when I closed the coop door. I did a count up, and was so lucky that all 16 birds were accounted for. I cant believe I did that...

Its too quiet here...

I did that once. Luckily both doors on the coop were locked...the pop-out for the chickens and the walk out for me.

ISA Brown chickens are a hybred developed in France in 1997 by crossing Rhode Island Red with Rhode Island White to create a sex link bird with high egg production. The company responsible was Institut de Sélection Animale hence the name ISA Brown. They merged with Merck & Co and the name was changed to Hubbard ISA Brown.

I knew an Isa was a cross between a Red & White. Mine are definitely good girls when it comes to laying. Thanks for the added info....it's always good to know the full background!

So, here is how the rooster move went... I put Roger in the cat carrier last night and put him in the big coop. He's not liking that AT ALL! He was very mad at me this morning. SO, I went out this morning to let Mr. Fluffers out and to open the door to the carrier. When Roger finally made his ticked off butt out of the coop, Mr Fluffers went after him. I seperated them and chased Fluff off. HOWEVER, Evil Fluffers has made his appearence in my previously sweet roo, and would he leave Roger alone? Crap no. He was going out of his way to run around me to get to Roger, so Roger could not get to the water or the food. I ended up putting Roger back in his pen while I went to work. When I got home, I opened the opposite side of the pen, away from where Mr. Fluffers was and let him wander around in the other side yard and front yard. The silly guy was following me all over the place. Poor dude is lonely with out his brother. As soon as he is comfortable with the hens, I will put two in his coop with him so he won't have to be in the carrier and Mr. Fluffers will not try and take his little head off. It looks like I might have to rehome Black Butt too. Mr. Fluffers was picking on him. Not bad, but, still. I hope its only cuz his beak is bent out of shape about Roger.

OR MAYBE, I am reading to much into this chicken soap opera!

WOW that wind is really whipping out there! Maybe I will get lucky and it will blow all the leaves out of my yard.
