If he doesn't you can have Buddy the Big Duck. He looks very tasty waddling around the yard and won't be near as wiley a target.

Poor thing! We hatched two out of...I think it was 6 in the spring. Then after 2 wks. one died and left the other all alone. Quail are tricky to hatch and raise I guess. Is your website new Taprock?? Loved the pictures!

There are really small incubators that are made for just a few eggs -- I think Brinsea makes one for like 6 eggs -- the problem as others have mentioned is that if you have a bad hatch rate and then lose a chick or two you often end up with a lone chick. You might be better off to borrow an incubator from someone who has one and who is able to provide for the chicks that hatch and then just give the whole lot of it back once you're done.

So sorry for your loss! If you're interested in Jersey Giants I met a guy who works at the Fair Haven Grain Elevator who raises them and has three pullets almost ready to lay that he is looking to sell before winter. He is asking $10 apiece. I would take them but don't have any place to quarantine them from my flock until I know they are OK. Really nice guy. PM me if you want his name and number.

RaZ, congrats on your new hens, you'll love those blue eggs!

I have 3 black Jersey Giant pullets (5 months old) I've been trying to sell. ($10 each). They are the last of the excess we have from our spring hatches. I've had a couple people interested who then decided not to come. Someone else is supposed to come get them Wed. (10/26/2011) after work, but we'll see. If they don't come, do you want me to let you know? We are east of Richmond, just north of 31 Mile between Gratiot and I-94.

ksl42 - Does you husband work at the Fair Haven Elevator? Sounds like the three Jersey Giants I just mentioned above! I'm assuming you are a woman, which may be wrong. I asked him if he was on BYC and he said no, he does all the building and hard labor and his wife does the research, etc. on the chickens.

home sick today and just read through about 20 pages here. Love Love all the pics of silkie roos, baby quails, and homemade coop door entrances, etc. Don't know why but those scrap wood projects always make me want to go build something. Wish this cold would subside soon.

Gu-day.
