What a nice morning! I got most of my outdoor chores done. Woot! I found another Pterodactyl egg in the coop this morning. HUGE!

Here is my poo tray:

I also let Blueberry and the chicks out for a bit since it was so nice:

That is the cutest thing I've ever heard! What a sweetie!

I will now stop calling my rooster a pansy. He fought off a hawk this evening. A hawk swooped down on him and his EE girlfriend. As the hawk pulled up to try and make a grab, Neil jump and kicked and flapped at him while Cadbury ran for cover. The hawk flew to a nearby tree and my son ran out and ran him off. So proud of my guy! Now if he could just learn to stand up the hens.

Way to go!!!

Well, Raz looks absolutely happy with his new girl there!

My son had pumpkin donuts yesterday out at Post Farms Pumkin patch in i think, Hudsonville, with his Kindergarten class. Did he bring mom any? Heck no he didn't. He brought me a funny squat gourd though, and the girls loved it.

Well, RaZ looks like he has been smitten with the bantam! Welcome to the bantam club RaZ! They steal your heart!
Thanks for the poop board info! I am going with Angela B's cardboard under the perch suggestion!
Jaime - your chickens look so healthy and happy! What a tribute to your care for them!
My young Isa's - 5 weeks are out in the green house. They can stay out longer that way. Bobbi, my bantam is hanging on the porch. She is my first chicken who had pneumonia.
The vet said it was cold weather, but I wonnder if sand in the coop might help her lungs as much as it helps mine! Going to cover the run today with plastic! Enjoy the sun everyone!

Its coop cleaning day. I am so glad the sun is out! I need to crawl up in there after I get all the poop and shavings out. I found a few nice peices of trim wood that looks like a ladder... Only its about 2.5 inches wide... that I want to put in up high cuz they are all seeming to want to get up higher now that they are bigger. My silkies and favs are happy to sit down lower... My silkies actually started roosting on the window seat I put in so they could look out the winder. SO ALL of them could look out the winder. Well, that makes me happy. If I get the time, I might try and get the other window cut in today. I have seelant and trim that would finish it up nice. I don't know. I was thinking I might like to make the underrun extend out a few feet at the one end... I was thinking I might take the old dog house coop and turn it into a feeder station to keep the water and feed in... The water seems to be disappearing at a phenomanal rate! I usually only fill the waterers every few days as I have 3 stationed thru the yard. Well, the big one was completely empty last night. I mean there was still water in the tray part, but the waterer was otherwise empty. I am thinking that the neighboring wilds are enjoying the fresh water from it. The waterer that are closer to the house, they don't seem to have the problem, and they are smaller so should empty faster than the big one. The dog house coop has a hinge lid, so here's what I was thinking... I'd attach it to the underrun so the chooks could go in and out there, and I could still get the feeders out thru the top, and then put the run door on the other end that would add 8 more square feet for them to enjoy, while they wait so patiently(SP?) for me to set them free. Only I was thinking that I'd make that end a Chicken Sun Room. LOL. See, the people who had this house before me had new window put in, and I found all the old storm windows in the nook under the stair in the furnace room. Gonna give them a new purpose... good idea?

HH, your hens are so beautiful!! Babigyrl, love the pics of your hen and babies and your EE. Love seeing all the different birds everyone has.

to CrazyCat. Best place to meet new friends and get great advice.
Congrats Raz on your new birds. Wish I could have gotten to Lansing to pick them up myself!
This day seems to be all over the place. Cool and windy, then some rain and now it seems to be trying to clear up. Hope it clears up, Krisrose is trying to get a covered area done for her geese for the winter. Have fun, Kristin!!

We have had some clients use the Thunder Shirts and have had some success. I think they are $30-$40 and can be returned if it didn't work out for you (I am pretty sure...double check their website). A veterinary behavior conference that I went to mentioned that one of the colleges was working on a study with the shirts, but I don't know if they ever finished. Other things to try if you haven't already would be DAP which is available in a plug in, spray and collar. Hope that was helpful!

Now...back to raking the leaves!

Congratulations Raz on your little lavenders! Mine are my favorite out of my mixed flock and are very docile. Watch out though...they can fly quite well. Just wait until they gift you with the prettiest little blue eggs:)
