Yep, Townline is in my old hometown. After all, why else were we known as the Chix

Kept the group in the coop today and they seem to be doing well in it. They're all eating and drinking just fine and have realized the perches are great places to be. I even got 10 eggs from them today which was more than I expected (but 6 less than normal) since they're in a new coop. So I think it's fair to say they like it.

Good morning everyone and thanks again for the birthday wishes. I was like a kid and ate junk food all day....the highlight was a hot fudge sundae on a brownie. YUM> DH got me a lovely necklace and I bought myself a new vaccum sweeper.

I have got chicks from Townline once and was fine with them.
As time gets closer to Feb. (when we leave for Florida)...I get more apprehensive about leaving my flock in the RV for 3 months at another chicken raisers home. It would be better if I sold my flock each year and started fresh each spring with a juvenile flock. I had checked into Townline and some other hatcheries...they "debeak" when selling juveniles and I can't handle that. Fred's hens on BYC said he might have some starters....maybe. Since I would be starting fresh each spring their shouldn't be too much of a biosecurity issue if I purchase from a ethical BYC person or place. Prefer vaccinated for Marek's. If you know of someone in Michigan who usually has juvenile chickens (healthy) each spring (May is when I return)...let me know. You can pm me if you want to. To be able to have eggs I would want them at16-20 wks. of age and and between 6-12 in number. I would actually like one roo also because I love to hear them crow!
I would prefer not to have to venture into Detroit...because i have never driven there and I think I"d get lost.

I am familiar somewhat with Lansing and Grand Rapids....and fine anywhere else.
I am just trying to give myself options. I still have my flock now.

Yesterday wasn't sunshiny and hot but as long as it isn't raining or snowing...I count that a good day!

I don't have many pictures of the younger half of my flock so I was out snapping some this morning. Thought I would share a few. The sun didn't help the pictures out but it is finally getting rid of the frost outside!

This is Little Miss Moppit who amazingly escaped the dog attack two weeks ago and spent the entire day out in our back field somewhere. She is so sweet and since her buddy the silkie is gone she has done well on her own. She actually now roosts with Brownie the production red.

@taprock - Little Miss Moppit is the cutest little thing! It's like having a stuffed animal as a chicken.

@AngelaB - Sorry about your silkie. I just saw another thread where someone's silkie roo just went broody. I guess they are confusing little balls of fluff.

One of my slacker BOs was checking out the nest boxes this morning. I'm hoping this is a good sign. The other BO still has a pale pink comb so I expect she is not near ready to start laying (at 31 weeks!). My roo is finally starting to crow. Not very often but a real, beak to the sky, give it all you got, crow.

I"m so glad the weekend is going to be nice. Still a few more outside things to get done. Back to work for a few more hours, then let the weekend begin!

Beautiful day up here in the North....cool but beautiful. I'm going to try and get the rest of my Dahlias dug up today and tomorrow.... The Pyncheons are laying still...despite the colder weather....and I had 3 chicks hatch out last week.....2 Pyncheons and a Blue Silkie. I don't mind Falls like this...

What a beautiful day this has turned out to be. The sun is shining, it's not too cold. I sat outside for a while this morning and watched the youngest batch of piglets (only 1 week old) play in the straw. I love this age. There's one female in particular in this group who is a little spit fire. Her conformation looks good so far, I'm hoping she proves to have good growth too, because I'd love to keep her feisty little self back for breeding. Love the girls with attitudes.
