All this talk of food and I have done nothing at this point. Our normal Thanksgiving involves hunting, then an early afternoon dinner at the in-laws followed by more hunting and then dessert in the evening at my parents. I cook our own dinner on Saturday so that it doesn't conflict and we sort of stretch the holiday out. Today my DH checks with his mom and she says "just like every year I'll have dinner ready when you get out of the woods." ??? He says at 10 in the morning? No at night. ???? We've been doing this for 10 years so I'm a bit concerned not only for what is going to take place tomorrow but also for her. I hate family drama although holidays are the time for it.

I think tomorrow while the guys are out hunting in the morning I need some quiet time for myself to list some of the things I am most thankful for. It is so easy in the craziness of the holidays to forget the whole reason why we are celebrating.

In keeping with BYC I am very thankful for all my birds. They have helped keep me sane in the past crazy stressful year. They are true therapy chickens. There is nothing like having your flock run out to see you or walk you to the house.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

Made it to florida safe, feels like summer in St Ignace so seeing christmas decorations is a little wierd.

Safe travel and a wonderful Thanksgiving day for all my fellow BYCers, there are many things I have to give thanks for and you all are one of them.

I am grateful for my birds too. I am blessed to have peaceful in laws and family, but while i have been learning to "go country" a lot of my family has married up, and are very particular about things. Plus i have told everybody for the last 3 years about working on my cookbook.... So what would normally have been a quick pie session has turned into an all evening event because i'm terrified i'll muck it up!!!!
I thank the Lord every day i have with my birds because I learn every day the meaning of peace and love. Sometimes it's in the quiet moments, and sometimes it is in the midst of an all-out flock battle, because in the end they all love each other. I wish i had my camera tonight for the evening roost. With the coming of winter my "kids" have pulled together, and for the first time i saw them laying peacefully together without fighting over placement... What a relief and joy it brought me!
Btw the book is for "classic" american meals. Everything is sized and cooked in the skillet, even my pies and cakes! It took 2 years of trying pie crusts and 3 of trying cakes before i found the best and easiest! No mucking it up here, despite my fears.

I like to talk cooking about as much as i like to talk chicken! Is there a thread on cooking???

Good Morning Everyone and Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing everyone a day full of family, friends, love & laughter and of course good food. We all have so much to be grateful for big & small and I for one feel very blessed and fortunate to be able to celebrate this day with my family & loved ones. Have a great day everyone and safe travels to all near & far.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Visiting my parents today. They're only 3 blocks away so I see them all the time but all the local family will be there. My contribution is mashed potatoes. My chickens are thankful they are not turkeys!

Opa - that cake sounds delious

Raz - that maple drizzled whateverkindofcake you made sounds drool worthy. I wish my DH could cook....or WANT to cook. I guess it's a good thing that I like to

1Mutt - glad you made it safe!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope everyone has a joyus and safe holiday. My DH and I are going to have a quiet holiday together of putting up Christmas lights and decorations. I've already put chicken in the crock pot (a turkey seemed like too much for just him - I'm a veggie) so the house will start smelling yummy here soon.

I hit a tree with my car yesterday, which was unfortuneate. Ok my story to the insurance company was that gigantic tree jumped into the middle of the road and bit my car.

(it got a laugh from the insurance agent) No harm done to me, just a bit on the stiff side this morning. Thank the LORD! It could have been much worse! I am not going to let it get my spirits down, and the car is totally fixable.

A couple of weeks ago I opened up the brooder and Blueberry with her young FBCM's are now roaming with the big girls. I noticed that they are starting to get their coppering around their necks. Gosh it's fun to watch them grow.
