So, I get home from work yesterday, delivering the flashes, and the previous duck owners had come over with a little fencing to keep the ducks in the yard. That was ok. BUT, what they did was made it so only the ducks could go in the covered area. Blocked the coop entry off from the chickens, and trapped Buffy in the coop, and she was p-oed to say the least. Boy was I hopping mad.

So, I re-arranged the fencing, ran the hardwire fence down the edge of the enclosure wall, and L shaped it so it made like a hallway to the back entry hole, thru half that hole, so both the chickens could go thru that entrance, and the ducks could go in and out that entrance, and re-opened up the people door, as that was blocked off too.

They sent me a txt message SEVERAL HOURS later telling me what they had done. UM, HELLO! I had already discovered the stupidity. I did not build the protected area for the ducks. I built it for my chickens. Boy, some peoples children.

Now for the cutest thing ever. Ok, cute for me, sure plenty of you have already seen it...

Skeeter is busy in the nest box, she's already laid her egg. BUT, she keep rearranging the eggs that are in there and settling down on them. AW! As soon as Veena decides it her turn to lay... She'll kick her out. LOL.

What color eggs do Australorps lay? I know I have 3 brown egg layers, I am hoping she will be a white layer...

Welcome new folks, I see another beekeeper.
Looks like there might be some competition at Chickenstock next year for selling honey.

Another soggy morning down here, neither the chickens nor the dogs seem to mind. Woke late after a sleepless night and I'm behind schedule. I have to hurry off to school and meet my advisor before class. This is last week of lecture

"You can judge the character of a man by the way he treats an animal".

I have met some people who I personally feel aren't worth a poop. Real jerks to everyone. However, you would be surprised at how well they take care of their animals. I guess some people are better at animals than people, so their character in regards to animals is above reproach.

Brown, sorry. But they are very good layers

I read somewhere during my initial research that an Australorp holds the record for laying with 364 eggs in 365 days. I had 3 at Chickenstock that I rehomed (due to the issue with my neighbor). They were such nice, friendly birds.

Come to think of it, alls of my chickens are nice and friendly, it's me that is the mean old rooster.

I don't think so.
My BA's are very friendly too which is why DH wanted to get more hens and a rooster for breeding.

Lol. That post made me laugh. Some people are really dumb. Australops lay brown eggs. I have four of them. I have some leghorns that lay white eggs and I can't sell them for the life of me. I have a guy that buys all my brown eggs and all my blue/green eggs but will not touch my white ones. He re-sells them and says people will not buy them because they are too much like store bought ones. Go figure.

My son brought in a new egg today! Our Cuckoo Maran laid her first egg! At this point I have several that I'm not sure who is laying.

My mystery eggs could be from Australorp, Cochin, Welsummer, Partridge Rock and I have a bantam Sizzle. We can usually tell everyone's eggs apart so it is frustrating not to be able to tell yet! Now if some of my older girls would just start up again we would have lots of eggs!
