How neat about all the camper coops!

I want to see pictures too!

Have any of you run across solar ventilation units in your look books? I have a catalog that has them but they are ridiculously expensive. They want $500 for the one i wanted! The neat thing is that although they were meant for regular roofs they come in a 12x12 size (i believe). I thought that would be perfect, but at that price i will have to keep dreaming!
For any of you that thought that camper coop looked fancy /pretentious in the least, here's the chicken shack; ie naughty spot/bachelor pad

It is a converted rabbit hutch! the roof is something that was junked that was given to us, and the windows i kinda tacked in there this fall. They will have to come out in the summer when it's hot. Nothing is straight, or airtight in this! This is what i started with the beginning of last summer. I don't use it except for isolation. This was one of my last ploys when i was breaking in my "good" roo when he got the idea to challange me- he had the shack for a while and the girls had the palace! They pranced by every day and laughed real good.

coulda been them, coulda been the mosquitoes from having no screens. Coulda been the daily brooming. he sure changed his ways in a hurry!
In the future i want to tear it down; it is an eyesore but it serves it's purpose.

Don't feel like a dufus. Not all of the ads on BYC are supported by BYC, some come from google and some are spam-bots.
I found that out over the summer when a guy called me saying that he saw my business listed on BYC and for a fee, he would provide me with "valuable leads" for my company. I checked with the admin folks at BYC and it turned out that it was either a troll or spam-bot and not one of their legitimate sponsors.

This information highway needs a slow lane...

That is too funny.

You really can freeze your chicken eggs though. Just break them into a bowl, scramble them up, pour them into ice cube trays and freeze. Once the cubes are solid, pop them out of the trays and put them in ziplocs for long-term freezer storage. The first time you do it keep track of how many eggs you use and how many cubes you end up with you'll then be able to figure out and keep in mind how many of your ice cubes equals 1 egg. They work great for baking and if you have excess it's a good way to bank up some for those times when they might not lay as much, such as mid-winter or during a heavy molt.

Im glad to hear you say the Orps are winter hardy, I didn't know. I have Lemon Cuckoo Orps fertile eggs coming soon and am sharing them with Keyt1969, we're both going to incubate some. Do you get fertile eggs from your JG fife, or don't you have a roo. I'd like to get some BLACK JG eggs and do them. I'm also wanting WHITE Chanteclers if anybody nearby has those.

On a sad note, we lost our 10 yr old terrier mix, Billy tonight. He just went to sleep and didn't wake up. Grateful he never succumbed to disease or got hit by a car, but to just have him go so suddenly was a shock. Rest in peace Lil Bill.

I am so sorry for your loss. At least he went quietly and peacefully in the comfort of your home, rather than sick and scared at a vet's office.

Have ya'll ever nearly broken your neck over a squatted chicken? Usually my chickens step out of my way, but today, one of my Araucanas must have been overtaken with lust and dropped flat on the ground right where I was about to step. Yea, I avoided falling on her, and she just sat there expecting attention (though the cockerels were more interested in treats then boinking).

Very happy to learn from all of you! Muttsfan - I thank you for pointing out that those of us with the red heat lamps also have hens who are laying more.
I did not make that connection!
