She is alive, wow. But she's pretty tore up on her back and her neck. The one at her tail area, you can see cartilage. Her neck is to the bone. What do I need to get from the pharmacy, I have Alban for antibiotic till I can get to TSC on Monday. My neighbor might have soem tetracycline. She is shaking so bad, I have a sun lamp on her to warm her up. My own effen dogs did this! I don't even know where they got out! I have to search the fence still. I don't know if my kids moved something when they were out playing... I am so mad right now.

Should i see if she will make it thru the night or should I put her down? I feel so awful right now. And my dogs know they did bad, cuz they are skulking around.

I am also posting this in emergencies...

the best chicken we ever had was just as bad or worse. My dog tore her back skin/feathers off- could see fat/cartilage.
She lived to be the best there ever was. Clean it put on ointment/neosporin and wrap her in a towel.
Keep her warm- aand see how she is tomorrow am

see if you can find NU-Skin or Moleskin or whatever those hydro-gel bandages are called to put on her wounds. You cut the sheets to fit them. Wrap soft-kling or rolled gauze around her body. You will have to keep her inside. Keep food in a dish near her head and a small dish of water.

I had to hold Carmens food and water up to her every day before work and then after, but whens she was wrapped in her towel, she never moved. I remember saying "no way this bird will make it through the night"...but not only did she do that, she thrived and I was able to use smaller and smaller hydrogel on her wounds. She grew and she always had a scar on her back but she survived to be my favorite of them all.

Good luck to you and to her.

I have some hydro peroxide, but its kinda old. the store is only 1/2 mile away, I have to get ointment too, so should I go ahead and get a fresh bottle? I just finished putting every one else away and checking everyone over. She seems to be the only one they went after. I found where they got out. Yup, kids moved the landscape tie that keeps the dogs from going under the gate. URG!!

I would not use hydrogen peroxide- the wound is too large. Just clean it with water and lather on the neosporin. OR if you are going to the store- get that hydrogel nu-skin stuff, you apply it and its fake skin. Use that on the wounds. It keeps them moist and helps them heal.

get rolled gauze to roll around her body to hold the new skin on. Keep her wrapped and warm and then wait it out.

The only nu-skin i found was the type you paint on, not the pad type. I will have to try walgreens in the morning. The moleskin type, the only one I found of that was for feet and had adhesive... They had this saline solution with .9% saline cloride, not supposed to sting or hurt, and I wouldn't have to soak her, could just do the areas in question... But wasn't sure if I should try it. Got triple antibiotic ointment plain, no pain killer.

Nova, good luck with your chicken. I hope she will be ok.

Fife, I forgot to post earlier to your question about the BR's. I will be selling hatching eggs and chicks next spring.

Use that saline solution to rinse her wounds-
apply the ointment wrap her with gauze and then keep her wrapped in a towel in a warm quiet dark place. See how she is in the morning.
Im not familiar with any of the paint-on stuff. You need hydro-gel, a moist gel pad type covering. We use bio-dressing at work, it contains an antibiotic and gels to become part of the wound, protecting it.
I dont know what the pharmacy sells that is closest to that. Good luck.

edit-

This is what I am explaining. The dressing form, not the tube.

Nova, the saline would be fine for cleaning her wounds. I agree that treating them with an antibiotic, then covering with gauze (not too tight) is a good idea. peroxide should not be used on such deep wounds as it can cause tissue damage (so can betadine, again not intended for such flesh wounds). Warmth and hydration wil be crucial for her survival.
